Default Running TMIC without hood scoop?

Is this a bad Idea? I am getting my new Impreza tomorrow and well I won't have the money for to do the hood and what other things I plan to have done when it goes it for painting for a bit. Would I be okay running low boost with just a stock hood?

Well it seems like it would make it a type of short ram intake?

It wouldn't be cold air. And since it's probably taking air in from the center back of the hood, it's probably going to be a hot air intake.

Even if it runs okay, I would still recommend saving up for a hood.

I'm doing that with my new age rs: getting a wrx hood and getting a top-mounted CAI built for it.

At least you HAVE an intercooler. I run 11PSI without one, cause the Legacy Turbo didn't have one from the factory.

But then again, i have low-comp pistons, and my car was made to work with this setup.

You could run no-boost, and it should be fine.

It'd then effectively be an interheater. Bad... definitely bad. If anything run real low boost and a straight tube between the turbo and TB.

You took the words right out of my mouth. You'd be better off just running a straight tube from the turbo to the throttle body. To go even a step further, have the tube wrapped in some type of 'anti-heat' material so as to not allow any heat to be absorbed by the tubing.

Hold on to the intercooler until you can either get fresh air to it or sell it.

Default Holding off

I am just going to wait and do it right. I figure I can use my Cone filter and MAF adapter to make a home made air intake and put my turbo exhuast on for a bit more pep. I can also install all my gauges and such and this way get everything sorted out before the install. I figure with the exhaust, intake and some adjustments from the S-AFR I might be able to be right around stock RS power till I put the turbo on.

you could 'try' running electric fans on the intercooler like constantly to do some sort of heat dissapation

Well waiting is good.. however those mods won't even get you close to stock RS power. Are you nuts?

Why not sell your top mount, cut up your front bumper or get a version 4 or version 5 front bumper and get a front mount intercooler. I would likely have done that if I bought an L instead of an OBS, but I don't have a top mount to sell to help pay for a front mount if you catch my drift

Good luck.. What paint work is being done?

Talking Wish Full Thinking?

Okay maybe not close to an RS but it's nice to hope. I personally like the Top mount interms of Lag and I don't need front mount for my HP goals. Plus I really like the look of the hood scoop. So paint work is scrape off the antena add spoiler, paint side moldings and hood.

Custom mount just the rs hood scoop, save you plenty O' money and look dope, I still am going to try this just for fun. Careful when the kit goes on try to have extra cash for misc. parts you want/need. Happy boosting!

You could always sell the TMIC and get a top-mount air-to-water IC, now that I think about it.

i always thought it would look cool if someone just let the topmount IC stick out of the hood. no scoop. it would work perfectly only downside is that people would be able to see it.

I would run the air/air IC till you get a hood.

I did see a air water IC for sale on ebay at about $160 so far. Search there too. Might be a better option for the stealth approach.
