This.

There needs to be a HUGE, BOLD sticky at the top of the Newbie section that says "Read this before posting ANYTHING about a BOV!".

OR:

During the forum signup process, you have to read the BOV FAQ, or you get warned that posting a BOV topic without searching to see if it has already been discussed will get you put in T.O. or suspended or even banned. Make them click a box that says "I have read and agree to..." just like sites do with the Terms Of Service.

When I feel like I need to apologize to noobs for getting flamed by a mod, things are not good.

I'd agree dave, but only if those that participate in basing the noob, or act like arses to the noob in process also receive the same treatment. No matter what color their name is written in, no matter how much they spend, or what the join number is.

I think a good half of the strife on this site is older members who have no patience anymore for anything.. and frankly, all the good works they have done are easily eclipsed by any negativity they show. 'Oh, the dude with a <500 user number that is a paid member can act like a twatwaffle...I CAN TOO!!!' ....They have no other standard by which to judge behavior...they haven't been here since the site started. I think a lot of people around this community need to recognize that how they treat people has big effect on how new people perceive the flow of the community in general. I see a lot of joke'sters around here tossing pretty strong language at each other, but when some noob does it becomes 'can dish it out, but can't take it' in an instant and they get run off. But beyond that, it's deeper, one need look only at the strife that takes place over something as simple as the model year of your car, or what two letter designation it goes by, or gasp, if came with a Turbo from the factory or not. The strife in this community has created entire communities built around NOT being like this place.. and thats a bad rep to carry..and it didn't get that way by noobs being noobs.

And maybe we all need to take a step back and remember why this site exists at all.. because there were at one point a group of owners who sought to collect and share information with each other that they other wise didn't know or have access too, or did, and wanted to communicate it.

The way some people talk I'd think they rather this site was an online chiltons manual, not a community at all..

And I again say, I have no doubts as to why Subaru is seemingly distancing itself from the 'die hard enthusiast' community if this is how we're acting towards one another when we're all supposedly here because we love Subaru.

Meh. Issue points for being a dick.

Banning someone outright on their first offense is a bit like shooting a puppy that pees on your carpet the first time. Smack it in the nose with a newspaper. You may have to smack it more than once. If it starts looking at you, baring its teeth, and pees on your shoe...

Shoot the MFer. Some dogs never learn.

Anyway, Dave, I've seen some pretty useful posts of yours. Good, insightful information that comes from being interested in Subies over a period of time. I think you may have even added to the body of knowledge here, every now and then. Not all your posts are retarded flame-fests. But if you had gotten banned a while back for one ****head post, we would have lost everything worthwhile you eventually came up with. That's no gain.

Granted, most of the the flaming 'tards that seems to pollute the forums will never, never have anything remotely useful to say. But sometimes you've got to give 'em the chance to change a bit. Moderators are here to moderate the forums, not ban everyone who makes one stupid post, that's why they aren't called bannerators.

I like jello more than taffy, generally.

As long as it remains open season for bashing in General then a swift TO in n00bs is okay.

But we should only be allowed to flame and bash those that give retarded answers, and not retarded questions. I'm all for retarded questions, as that is what this forum is for. But retarded answers that riddled with misinformation and just utter stupidness shouldn't be immune.
