Default Dyno Tune: TD04 at P&L makes 320whtq with new TMIC

Event: Retune for Stage 2
Location: P&L Motorsports
Ambient Temp: 75
Elevation: 576ft Chicago IL
Weather: Sunny
Car: 2007 WRX Wagon
Tuner: Jorge @ P&L Motorsports
Dyno Info: DYNOJET
Peak HP at RPM: 244
Peak Torque at RPM: 320
Baseline hp/tq for a stock on same dyno: Not sure, before retune 237whp/255whtq

Target Boost: 16.5 psi
Target AFR: ~11.7
Fuel: 93 Octane from BP in Chicago
Engine/Power Modifications: Maddad DP SwainTech’d, Maddad MP SwainTech’d, Prodrive Axleback, Prodrive BCS, APS 65mm intake, Samco Turbo Inlet
Driveline Modifications: Group N Bushings
Suspension Modifications: All group n bushings, koni inserts, wagon pinks, Oswald subframe and bumper beam

Last February I went to P&L for a basic stage 2 tune consisting of: Maddad DP, Maddad Intermediate Pipe, Prodrive Axleback, and Prodrive BCS which resulted in a 237hp and 255tq, which is just for reference. However, the car drove beautifully. I then decided I would keep the stock turbo and add a larger TMIC, APS intake, and Samco inlet (P&L Tuned) The last three items resulted in 244hp/320tq. The intake and inlet realistically did not do much but, the intercooler helped out quite a bit. Now these number may not be that great but it does show the gains on a simple stock setup that can be made with just and intercooler (intake helped at the far right). The dyno plot below contains the previous run on my old setup as well as the new. Big thanks to P&L for their proffesionalism.

Is that big TMIC any laggier than the stock TMIC? I was considering an APS TMIC for my car but didn't have the cash for one at the time this summer.

I realize that all dyno's will read different it was just really interesting that a larger TMIC intercooler could yield in my eyes substantial gains. I really only brought the car for a retune to ensure that the added parts were not adversely affecting the engine. I was only expecting 5-10 ft-lb gains, so this was a pleasant suprise!

Wait, your telling me that a Process West TMIC gave you +65tq but only +7hp? How is that physically possible? Both numbers seem ludicrous, but then again theres the dyno graph right there. Interesting...

What did you tune it with?

Bigger IC = better chance of keeping the IATs from that blowtorch they call a turbo, under control.

I tuned on 93 Octane from BP. Took the car out today and it is incredible. In 5th gear I can pass with no issues! Compared to the tiny stock TMIC I cannot detect any lag with the larger TMIC.

Did you do a baseline run before the original tune (not the new one with the intake, TMIC, etc)? I'm curious as to what a TD04 with Stg. 2-level bolt-ons will do on P&L's dyno before the tuning starts.

I made 241 hp and 323 wtq @ efi logics. The 2.5l displacement yields more torque.

stage 2 catless and 38mm ewg with an APS TMIC.

The Process West TMIC is a work of art. The welds are perfect and so is the fitment. There were no issues with fitment whatsoever. Also it is not ridiculously thick so if it does begin to heatsoak in traffic it cools down very quickly. I also have the APS 65mm CAI which definately helped way up at the top end. Down low <6500rpm the stock box would probably give the same results. However the combo of the CAI and Samco inlet makes for a lot of noise which I find sounds good.

RPM. There is very very little increase in peak horsepower because there is very very little increase in torque at that RPM . It's possible to make more torque and LESS horsepower if it makes less torque than before at whatever RPM peak horsepower is made.

As for the difference in numbers from before (+65wtq) I can't say because I'm not a tuner, nor am I his car

Do you have to get these through process west directly or is there a vendor here in the states? Also this next question is directed to Audiosavvy and irrelevant, but do you have a build thread or something with your 2.3 info? Thank you!
