Definitely should just call the cops and tell them where you are. I had a guy in an E36 M3 try to race me on the highway in the middle of the day, with semi's around. I have no interest in racing people either so everytime he slowed down after revving up a little, I just looked over and shook my head. After 3 pulls to try to get me going, he gave up while I continued at the same speed.

Also, I understand that these kids were pissing you off but they did crash their car pretty seriously it sounds like. You should have stopped and at least called 911 then. What happened to them? Is there a story somewhere?

I usually let them get ahead of me then turn off the road as soon as I can then turn back around wait then get back on the road and go about 5mph under the speed limit. however I have had to lay it down and put them in their place.

when you see someone getting this dangerous the light bulb needs to go off in your head and call the cops asap .
This at least gives you some protection for your high speed getaway that you needed to do to protect your self and possibly other innocent drivers or pedestrians.
unfortunately being from the TRI-STATE area there is and always will be a very very high amount of ass-hats !
I think there was a pretty good chance they were trying to jack his car, not race.

it's funny you bring that up, a buddy of mine has a well done 02 s2000 and he was just telling me how they were discussing the price issue on s2ki the other day. you can pick up a 99-03 for like $10-15k therefore its getting easier for 'ricers' to get their hands on 'em (like the wrx). OP, he wanted me to apologize on behalf of the s2k community

There is a simple answer to this. Simply do not make eye contact and ignore them completely. Maintain your speed and drive normally. Eventually they will lose interest. I do this and it works.

I had a similar situation a couple years back in my truck out on 72 at around 2am. Guy kept running right up on my bumper and then backing off. Eventually he passed me and started to hit his brakes. It was like in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. He moved into the left lane and evened out with me and started reving and making short jumps forward. He then pulled back behind me and when I approached the 70 circle I turned, he went right into the circle up in the line of trees in the center. I just kept going. I don't have an answer for you, there will always be people who don't think and just want to race.

Sounds like these guys were probably liquored up. I'd have called the cops while continueing to drive the speed limit. Either they'll get tired of you or the cops will show up and the morons will quit and/or get pulled over.
I've always ignored people trying to race me and they eventually give it up.

That would either be quite a feat or an expensive 5-way conference call.

Default story to it

My story begins before I got my wrx I was 26 at the time, driving a VW Jetta tdi '98 and it was just abt a year ago around mid Nov. I had just dropped my g/f off @ her house and was driving home at 1:15am ish, i only live 10 min from my g/f house its all back roads. Someone comes up on me real quick out of nowhere and rides my bumper. Feeling impervious that night I decided to speed up on chesterville rd (now my tdi was a stage 2 so it'd had some pull for a diesel). The strech of road I was on was pretty straight except for a 90+ degree up hill turn at one point that is blind. So I speed up and the person behind me keeps up, knowing this back road well I figure to myself I will dust him on the turn. The turn comes up I drop to a safe speed I know I can take the turn on, when theres a deer in the middle of the road, swerve once avoided the deer, swerved again avoided the embankment, swerved a third time avoided the telephone pole, didn't swerve again hit the embankment. Car flipped at least once ended up on the roof in the opposite lane facing the opposite direction I was going. I had to kick out the passenger side window to get out and yes the seat belt saved my life and from major injury. Here's the kicker to my story. Before I got out of the car My first thought was the guy that was behind me will help, or at least call for help. I was wrong, When I got out I saw nothing but a dark road, and realizing the guy riding my bumper before I took the turn, turned into a development before the turn so there would be no help from her/him, as they just wanted to get home faster. I walked away from that with a minor knee injury. The next day I went to take a few photos of my car while at the junk yard and to get my stuff.

My whole point being this accident is what caused me to get my wrx, it was a mistake to have lack of better judgment and bad timing with the deer. I am not trying to take away anything from the OP I just thought my story might help to illustrate the importance ignoring people on the road like that.

The kind of thing happens here in Taiwan too. However the ricers that fly past me only slow down half a mile ahead and wait to see if I will chase them. No thanks. The thing with the Taiwanese (Chinese) is that they don't accept loss at all....they would kill themselves or anyone else just to avoid loss...and that in itself is the best reason not to even tempt a Taiwanese driver at a race....even on a track it can get out of hand.

My advice: Just ignore them

It does if they were drinking at all. I have had to report DD's on the highway before. They ask for the mile marker, ask you to follow at a safe distance, and they tell you were the nearest cop is.

1. Cops will issue tickets they just wont hold up in court. i have seen proff of this.
2. My mom called the cops to report a drunk driver on the freeway and they literally pulled them over right in front of her less then 5 mins later.

Add Oregon to the list, once our worthless Governor signs the bill.

Get pulled over, and hand the phone to the cop so they can see it's a 911 operator. That'll be an amusing moment...

Same here! Doesn't always work though. Last Saturday morning, on my way to work, a Dodge Cummins revved on me at a light. I revved back. When the light turned green, he took off and I turned right.
