We've just started another season of Time Attack out here and I thought I should start a thread about our car- It's been around quite a long time. JC bought it new back in 2006 and brought it to Harman Motive shortly afterward. Here's a picture from Laguna Seca in 2007:
![]() Think it was still on the stock turbo and motor back then with a water injection kit, intake, radiator, oil cooler, and splitter. Suspension was Cusco Zero-2E For 2008 a cosworth long block and rotated 35r went on the car, and we won Redline Time Attack street class. 2009 is when the build got a little crazy. Stoptech, JRZ, AEM, and Toyo came on as major sponsors to make the car into a modified class contender: ![]() The car got a flat bottom, Stoptech Trophy brakes, Enkei NT03+M wheels in 18x10.5, and 295/30-18 Toyo R888s. For 2010 the car got a new paint job, a new wing, better front end aero, and an E85 conversion: ![]() ![]() Now we've gone even farther with the front end and swapped out the GT35R for a GTX35R, which gained us another 60whp: ![]() ![]() ![]() From here I don't even know where to start. Motor? Suspension? Aero work?

Holy downforce Batman!
Start min/maxing. All the little things. That's a stock IM, perhaps time for a Cossie? Maybe one of those crazy destroked/bored 2.5-to-2.3-to-2.5L builds they're talking about in Built Motor right now? |

Well we don't need a whole lot more power, and until I see a destroked motor make a powerband like this:
I don't see the point. I love the idea behind the long rod motor but in practice I'm not impressed. When we had a cosworth 2.6 it spent plenty of time over 9k. Here's our boost curve: What's really funny is that we have a stock exhaust manifold too. Here's what a good EL manifold does vs a stock ported one: http://jamalb.net/pictures/Breck%20new%20manifold.GIF Car is pretty much a street class version of our car with a cosworth long block, our rotated 30R kit, cosworth intake manifold, and E85. who's 'good EL' manifold was that? Many people look over the fine touches in the stocker that make for a good manifold that 99% of the aftermarket ones don't touch.
Wanna get Garrett to donate a GTX35R so that I can accept the challenge for the powerband? I will say that tq spike at 4500-5000 is nice for exiting a corner...I'm doing some brewing in my mind right now. Mind emailing me some details on your data aq capabilities for this car? I'd like to get some good roadcourse data and feedback, that is if you don't me taking a gander at your data with an open mind...I'd be happy to send an NDA. I'd like to do some modeling or even just take a quick look and give some feedback (if wanted). I've always been a fan of this car and JC is a funny bastard! Our data aq capabilities are great. our use of them is not so great. We have all the usual engine parameters, plus brake line pressure, suspension position, and a GPS tracker. We use an AEM EMS and AIM dash. I don't really have any recent logs and we probably won't be out on the track again until May 22nd for the Global Time Attack event at Willow Springs.

GPS tracker and engine would be my primary data for what I'm looking at. I do take what's happening with traction into account...my wholistic approach to motorsports dynamics but yeah.
I'll PM as to not junk up the thread. |

Ron and Micah get to wait until May for any data unfortunately. it's something I really want to spend more time monitoring. Until then here are some more pictures I took at a recent speedventures time attack:

Ron is phatron.
Came across some older pictures of the front end. It's changed a lot over the course of a year. RTA Las Vegas last year: ![]() Before Subiefest last year: ![]() After Subiefest last year: ![]() Superlap last year: ![]() |

Realized that you meant that Ron after posting.
Looking through your pics, you guys can close off open frontal area (drag) and probable increase cooling through the FMIC and radiator by changing your ducting some. Basically think of the opening as the narrow part of a venturi. You will have high velocity air at (or near) the stagnate air flow pressure at the opening. Then having a larger area behind it will allow a higher pressure infront of the cores. It'll then work even better if you do the reverse of that behind the radiator and have it ducted out through the vents on your hood which will increase the airflow through via a higher delta P. Just look at the area of a formula car's sidepod opening compared to the area of the radiator ![]() |

Yeah it's gotten better but there's still a lot of room for improvement. My thought is to move the radiator back a little bit and cover the top openings in the bumper.
ducts like these would be nice: http://www.subaruwrcspares.com/13.html |

You've got the basic idea there. They duct out the side of the bumpers incase you didn't know/notice. With your application, I'd just make a simple boxed (but tapering) duct and mold it to the underside of your hood. Then make it's mate be fixed to the backside of the radiator...ah screw, you guys are big boys and know what you're doing.
Less drag = better fuel economy...hold on, I mean more speed down the straights ![]() Better air flow is always a perk for better cooling and the higher the pressure at the point of heat transfer = more air molecule = more mass for heat transfer to occur ![]() sorry for post whoring. I'm just running some really boring tests at work today. |

what core material are you guys using for the floorpan? I'm assuming it wasn't holding up well to the exhaust heat.

Everythign is made out of 1/4" alumalite, and yes we get a little bit of distortion on that section of floor. All that exhaust is probably not helping our aero either.

yeah, exhaust even exiting into the diffuser section hinders the undertray's effectiveness. I recall seeing a study from an F1 team (I think Ferrari) had tested the exhaust flow out of the back of the diffuser and found it to be a loss of power and downforce, though on paper it looked good...backlight angles and their flow are funny.
Dumps out over the sideskirt is pretty much always a safe call....until you run a t Leguna Seca ![]() |

Global Time Attack may 22 at big willow. Would be nice to get some new shock pots before then too but they're like $250 ea.

Two more weeks to Global Time Attack at Big Willow! We'll be out there and so will LIC and GST Motorsports. LIC has made some pretty big changes this spring to get their car ready and we're excited to see them out there.
