Default Super Lap Battle 2009 Street AWD class winner 1:57.188

garageGT WRX 2009 racing schedule had ended with Subiefest, and we prepared the WRX for the new Tomei-GT special project. Tomei helped us with Cusco suspension and we brought Eiji "Tarzan" Yamada into the equation to make the garageGT WRX competitive. The new Tomei-GT WRX driven by Tarzan Yamada took 1st place at Super Lap Battle finals with a 1:57.188, almost setting a record for Buttonwillow street AWD class.

Tarzan went through our front brake pads unexpectedly fast and we had to send him out with %10 pad material left trying to beat the clock for the 1st place street class AWD. Tarzan had lapped a 1:57.805 right behind HBspeed/Cobb/Robispec EVO X @ 1:57.630 and Stoptech EVO X @ 1:57.699 before the final session of the day.

Tomei-GT WRX ran a 1:57.188 with the help of 2psi extra boost to compansate for early braking and took 1st place for 2009 Super Lap battle finals at Buttonwillow raceway.

setup:
garageGT spec EJ257 shortblock
DPR EJ257 heads w/Tomei custom cams
garageGT spec GT3582R turbo setup

GrupN 1-4 dogbox / Cusco tarmac gear / Cusco LSDs / Carbonetic twin plate carbon clutch

Congratulations! I bet the car is just twitchy because of the "street" tires.

I've been looking for a rivet on fender flare. It looks good to me so can you share what brand they are?

Thanks guys.. Rear cusco LSD has too much initial torque combined with street tires, we have to adjust the LSD a bit..

We used chargespeed universal flares, talk to versus motorsports and they should be able to help..

cenk

Cenk,

Thanks. For the Cusco rear diff you need to add "limited slip" additive. I had the same problem and that will smooth things out substantially.

Zero3s are great, very fat piston..

This is the street version with internal reservoir, the external version is about $5000

I have to honestly give it up to Jon at HBspeed for driving a hell of a time... its not to often you see a shop owner smash on people... reguardless if it has full interior or not...

Congrats to all the podium finishers and I'll see some of you at Cal Speedway for the Redline Time Attack finale...

his comment seemed half way ******* halfway playin around.
I think those comments are good to an extent, they push you to whoop that person's evo X in your 02 wrx time and time again :P

so what are the requirements for street class? i would think a built motor with a 35R setup and a dogbox and Full Cusco LSD's is pretty serious for a "street" car? i would think with all these mods you would atleast run modified, but i dont know the rules real well, so please explain.

good job though!

engine mods are not limited, so you can have a stroker + 40R turbo if you like, dash & door panels has to be there, but you can remove the rear seats. There is nothing in the rulebook about a catalytic convertor, but you need to have the car registered. The most limiting factor is the tread wear imo. We could have ran 275s but kept the redline time attack street class setup of "255/35/18". Street class means Street tires...

street class = 180+ tread wear

limited = 100+ tread wear

unlimited = DOT Legal

those are pretty much the rules.

And adding more increases the slip therefore decreasing lock up. You have to experiment to get the right amount of slip. Over time the diff will loosen up also and you may need to adjust your ratio.
