Default Trailer Hitch Harness Problem - Please Help!

I've been experiencing problems hooking up the trailer hitch wiring on my son's 2003 Baja. After fitting a nice Curtis hitch, I purchased the Subaru trailer hitch harness (part # L1010LS210) which should connect directly to the plug that hangs underneath the car and behind the right rear wheel. However, the plug is just too large for the harness. The Subaru online dealer replaced the first harness for me, since we thought it may have been mis-labelled, but I am having the same problem with the replacement item.

Am I doing something wrong? The part # is definitely supposed to be the right one for the Baja and checks out against the VIN #, too. I thought at first that the plug on the vehicle might have a cap that needs to be removed, but that does not seem to be the case. The plug does have some little rubber grommets protecting the terminal connectors, that have to be taken off, but that is not what is preventing the plug from connecting to the harnesss.

This is really frustrating and I'd appreciate some help or advice from anyone who has experience with fitting a Baja hitch harness. Many thanks.

I did the same thing, first didn't realize there was a significantly large plastic cap protecting the interior of the connector on the car itself. Once that was taken out (make sure you get all of it out) the plug fit, albeit pretty snugly. If it still isn't working, I would check the part # again. I went through the wrong one/return/replace gig twice before they sent the right one....sorry can't be more help - once you get the right part, it's a good fit and simple install......

Many thanks to both respondents. I now have the hitch harness successfully fitted. For the record, Subaru part # L1010LS210 is the correct item. However, what the fitting instructions do not metiion is that the car hook up plug that hangs behind the rear right wheel has a large blank fitted that appears to have terminals and looks just like a plug itself (could it be some kind of adapter for hooking up something else?). Once that whole thing has been removed, the harness plugs right in!

Default My instructions had info on the plug cover

My instructions had the info about removing the cover plug prior to connecting the adapter. It was for a 2006 Baja.
