Default Subiesport magazine purchased by Grassroots Motorsports magazine

Grassroots Motorsports magazine purchases Subiesport Magazine
For Immediate Release

HOLLY HILL, Fla., November 18, 2009—Motorsport Marketing, Inc., publishers of Grassroots Motorsports magazine, are pleased to announce that they have acquired Subiesport Magazine’s print and digital editions from MediaSpigot LLC, a media company based in Kirkland, Wash.

Grassroots Motorsports Publisher Tim Suddard had this to say about the purchase: “Here at Grassroots, we know and love Subarus and have been at the forefront of the blossoming Subaru market for many years. Bringing Subiesport into our fold is a good fit for both companies and will mutually benefit our combined readerships. Not only will we fulfill all remaining Subiesport digital and print subscriptions with Grassroots Motorsports, but we’re also going to ramp up coverage. Our hope is that we can deliver beyond our new readers’ expectations.”

David S. Wallens, Grassroots Motorsports editorial director, commented on how the acquisition will affect the editorial side of Grassroots Motorsports: “In addition to our already extensive autocross and rally coverage, we have begun to create even more Subaru-specific features in light of this acquisition. In fact, we already went out and purchased our new project car: a 2003 Subaru WRX, which we've been having fun with. I welcome Subaru fans to give us feedback on our Web site and tell us what they want us to do with it—while it’s still mostly stock.”

Tim Suddard continued, “Another great benefit of this acquisition is that, rather than have a competitor in the Northwest, we now have a friend and ally in former Subiesport Publisher Ryan Douthit. We have known Ryan for many years and have respected what he accomplished with Subiesport. Now, however, he’ll be able to put more of his energy into producing great content, both for Grassroots Motorsports as well as his growing video series, ‘Driving Sports TV.’”

Douthit added, “Having competed against Grassroots Motorsports in the cutthroat magazine business, I know that the quality of their editorial and the ethics of their staff is unsurpassed. Also, as a larger publishing company, they will be able to do a great job providing the Subiesport readership with the type of content they continue to crave—now eight times a year!”

The acquisition is effective immediately. Subiesport subscribers will receive all issues due to them, starting with the April issue of Grassroots Motorsports, which gets mailed in February 2010.

So this means that Subiesport is dead, and we will receive copies of Grassroots Motorsports Magazine in the mail or a new version of Subiesport Magazine?

The Subiesport magazine you have known is gone, unfortunately. Instead, you'll recieve Grassroots Motorsports for the remainder of your issues. I hope you'll give us a chance, but I understand the frustration a lot of the Subiesport readers are feeling.

I like to think of it as going from a few issues a year to 8 issues; each are about 180-205 pages long. We're planning a ton of Subaru-specific content this year, and much of our content is applicable to all makes and models.

I wonder what happens to those of us who subscribe to both magazines. Will I now get 2 issues of GRM in the mail? Sad to see SubieSport go, really loved the Subaru-specific mag.....

Ironic... I was just thinking about asking for a refund for the remainder of my Subie Sport subscription with the intent of signing up for GRMS... Now I guess I don't need to!

I guess this explains why Ryan hadn't replied to the email I sent over the weekend.

Sad to see Subie Sport go, but I have been impressed with GRMS's content thus far.

I think that everyone involved is committed to see the transition go smoothly. To be honest, I don't see any speed bumps. Most of the GRM staff is already fluent in Subaru.

Our preliminary "de-duping" work showed little crossover. SoloWRXSTi, contact me directly and I'll make sure we take care of you.

The Subiesporters will start receiving GRM with our April issue. We have a lot of conversion stuff to tackle.

Well I was going to subscribe to GRM anyways, after reading their write up on getting 1g out of the 2008 WRX I was blown away, the editorials are awesome in this mag very reminiscent of Subiesport, when they first started ( I mean the quality of the writing, not the production or other aspects). In the last couple years the editorials in Subiesport have dropped off. I am glad my subscription will pick back up with GRM, considering I haven't really received many (2) magazines from Subiesport this subscription round( I have every issue of Subiesport from issue 1). And this whole time I thought Ryan Douthit was just being a wanker. Well I mean he kinda was, not responding to the Subiesport boards, or even taking the completely justified criticism of the terrible idea of leading Subiesport to its death via "new direction". Well either way, I am happy GRM will be satisfying my motorsport needs from now on.

424WRX, the deal was just completed over the weekend--believe me, we're rushing to make the changeover happen asap. Our February issue is just about to leave for the printer, and there's no way to import the Subiesport subscriber data by then. This also gives us a little bit of time to ramp up the Subaru editorial. (And don't ask why the issue months seem to out of whack; welcome to the world of publishing.)

And a PS: Don't forget, we print eight times a year, so our issue months do seem a bit odd. In our world, April follows February. We don't celebrate March. Questions? Problems? Feel free to contact me directly.

Ha, what timing! And to think we were just laughing at the fate of Subiesports this weekend while admiring the Subies racing in Macau. At least GRM gets their issues out on time, and fulfills their subscription obligations, so that is a positive for subscribers.

so if i understand correctly, the magazine "subiesport" will completely cease to exist.

what exactly did GRM buy?

and does GRM want to buy short episodes of a subaru-centric webshow?

Wooo! I was just about to take out a subscription in Grassroots Motorsports anyways! Any ideas as to when we will find out how many issues we will be getting? I have a two year sub that was made like a year ago and only received two issues. Will I be getting shafted for the remaining issues for that year?

I started reading GRM this last year and decided that I was going to replace my subsription to Subiesport with a GRM subscription, so this works out well for me. Although not subuaru-specific, there's been noticable coverage, at least in recent issues. It really is a great magazine, and I'm pretty happy to be getting it.

What about getting a REAL refund? I paid for a one-year subscription to Subiesport in February and only received one issue, but was sent a measly $13 refund. How do you plan on fixing that? When did you close on this purchase? It might have been after my refund was sent. I would love to receive Grassroots in place of the rightful money owed to me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

After re-reading the original post, I lauged out loud on Ryan's quote about GRM's staff having great ethics, something that Ryan DID NOT HAVE by ripping us all off! I would bet a large sum of money that this 'purchase' has been in the works for a while, which is why Ryan just kept taking people's money and not putting out a magazine.

This is great news.
Subiesport's demise will leave a hole in my magazine library, but replacing it with GRM is something that I'm looking forward to. You guys put out a good mag.
