Default Any Clark Turner customers? Need some help with what to go with!

Alright, so I have a 2002 WRX Wagon. I'm planning on going with the Blouch 19T setup.

The Blouch 19T, Deatchwerks 650cc injectors, and NGK 1 step colder spark plugs have been sitting in my room for some time now, and I'm DYING to finally install them and be on my way.

Is a Clark Turner protuned map with my AP V1 going to be a good route to go with (for my setup mentioned above) for the time being, until I rack up some money to actually get a good protune?

Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of gains that I'll be seeing with my setup mentioned above, going with a Clark Turner protune map?

This is everything that will be installed before the protune:

- Full SR*S TBE
- Stock gutted up pipe
- Cobb SF intake
- APS V1 TMIC
- Stock BPV
- Blouch 19T turbo
- DW 650cc injectors
- NGK 1 step colder irridium spark plugs
- Walbro 255 lph fuel pump
- AP V1 with Clark Turner protune

Thanks in advance!

- DJ

can you log your car? do you have an ability to monitor knock, boost, timing?

every car is different and so therefore an off the shelf tune will not work the same on your car vs another car. its crucial for you to be able to see how your car is running.

From what I hear, the AP V1 can't datalog, so no to question 1. Don't know what the second questions means lol (yes, I'm a noob, sorry).

I'm just saying with the mods I listed, do you think it would be safe to go Clark Turner?

Thanks!

Quick solution...ask Clark Turner. Why are you asking us? He would know better than anyone here. I'm sure his number is on here somewhere. If you don't have it...PM me.

well according to the compressor map and the section of this forum about picking a turbo this is possible on a 2.0L engine with 85% volumetric efficiency

I'd like to see it done, though

I see you're totally ignoring my previous advice regarding how totally dangerous of a tuner Clark is. He is the last tuner anyone here should ever let touch their car. If you break a ringland shortly after you have none but yourself to blame.

How's a come that you're the ONLY one who rips on Clark? I'm not running a gigantic setup or anything, so it's a chance that I'm going to have to take I guess.

Can I ask what type of setup that you were going with when Clark tuned your car?

Thanks.

Clark did a road tune for me, and I have ZERO complaints and ZERO issues for many miles now. He does things the right way. I love how when people's cars are broken before the tune, they are quick to blame the tuner.

Yes, my car was totally broken before. Ya, all 17k miles I had on the motor beforehand had really worn it down considering abused from all my hellacious Speed Racer driving on my daily highway work commute. And I totally didn't pass a compression test prior to tuning.

I'm not the only one. You think any real portion of his current/former customers are reading this thread or your old one? Ask vinxH what he thought of his Clark tune. He's another person off the top of my head who lost a motor to him. Or FaisalT. Ownij. Bankheist. Stray Cat.

I appreciate you giving me this info, honestly, I do. I'm not coming down on you or anything, I was just wondering why nobody else chimed in like you. So you're saying not to get an e-tune at all? Or just not to use Clark? If it's just not to use Clark, then what's a good e-tuning company?

Thanks!

Definitely speaking the truth there... I'm going to call Clark today, and hopefully he answers and has time for me for a little bit so I can get all the questions I have off my chest and I will probably end up going with one of his tunes.

Being a tuner is like being a doctor...as a doctor if you dont think you will kill someone or be there for when they die then quit and dont be a doctor. Same for a tuner they are eventually going to see engines that fail. I assume BYZANTIUM you already spun a bearing once and swapped a block and then broke a ringland after the second block... not b/c of your tune but POSSIBLY (not saying this is set in stone) ...maybe you didnt break in your motor correctly. The first 20 miles of a new motor needs to be driven quickly and peppy not slow so the rings dont seat. Is any of this the case? You already said you dont drive fast and daily commute...I hope that isnt how you broke in a motor. I know your 2002 doesnt have 20k. And also if you dont want your car to blow up then dont put it on a dyno and dont mod it. The only thing I won't agree w/ is internet tuning. Other than that I heard Clark Turner came from IT at IBM and also worked on the Cobb Accessport development.

Then again a broken ringland can happen from not having enough money for the needed time to tune and/or being broomed out by a shop after, so they tune you a pig rich which could lead to this...

I don't recommend him at all. My car was tuned by him in person.

Other companies:
-Surgeline Tuning
-PDX
-awdtuning
-EQ Tuning (Vaus on this forum)
-Testes1010

And I do properly know how to break in a motor. My spark plugs were fine for the compression testing but 200 miles later when I changed them due to Clark's recommendation due to a "misfire problem" they were black.

Default Clark Turner Tuning

Use Clark if you already know what to look at when you data log your car. He did not help me out after giving me a basic stage 2 map. Your best bet is a Tactrix cable and laptop; do a boatload of research so when Clark doesn't have time to hold your hand you can help yourself.

If you don't know what you are doing; Clark really won't help you at all.

Other than that, the basic tune he gave me is good; car still runs 2k later with some hard driving.

Header back exhaust; Perrin Intake.

i agree completely...you can just load the map and forget it! you have to monitor and log.

i'll be honest, i paid clark and he started tuning my car. the entire process was too tedious for me so i stopped getting back incontact with him, took the hit and paid to get my car tuned locally on a dyno.

We weren't too far into the tuning process, probably 3 revisions but i'll just tell you this....its very easy for someone who is e-tuning your car, to blame your car and say there's a mechanical problem with it and have all the pressure be on YOU and off them. hope you understand what i mean.

I have nothing but good things to say about Clark Turner! He tuned two or my cars (2002 and 2007 wrx) The bug eye was tuned in person here in my town with open source. I sold that car to a friend 2 years ago. Soon after that my friend bought a AP V2 and with some logs and Clarks revisions to this date runs like a champ

As per my 2007 wrx he has e-tuned it several times. Every time I get a big upgrade like, turbo, TVG delets, Grimmspeed boost solenoid, headers, tmic and next moth fmic plus methanol "you get the point" I always go back to him for a new or a revised map........

Every 6 month he comes to my town to tune. The firts time he came It was 8 people but then the word got around about Clark at meets and at the tracks it just grew more and more "Word of Mouth is the best advertising" there was 25 people that got tuned the last visit..

Any way as per me and all my friends "Clark Turner" is the man
my two cents
good luck

i also have read about Clarke as a tuner. Currently im running the OTS map for the 39 on my wagon but i will be using an e-tune prior to making the long drive to get pro-tuned. The two that i had weighed were Clarke and PDX tuning. I have read too many similar stories about Clarke blaming things that could have been his tune on the client and i really don't want to deal with that, i have not read anything bad about PDX so you may want to look into that.
