Default is there supposed to be play in the power steering pump pulley?

Im trying to diagnose a high pitch sound at idle...and I think it might be the power steering pump I took the belt off whcih is only a month old and the pulley moves in and out some ...is this normal? Would this be causing my new belt to leave rubber shavings around the front area of the motor?
thanks

Sir,

You need to get that P/S pump replaced or looked at by someone else that is more familiar with subaru's. That could very well be the reason why you have rubber shavings in your engine bay. Also, The abnormal wear on your belt could be where your noise is coming from.
