Well, sti's came with an ej257, but you are calling this an ej255. Which is it? And how many miles are on it? What happened to the rods? Also, any idea what shipping to Indiana might run?

right sorry ej257 but as far as the block goes they are the same only the heads are diff. i bought 2 from craigs list and i am using the one and selling the other. i was told the milage was 45k out of an sti. the guy used to work at a dealer and had a bunch of subaru stuff he wanted rid of. thats really all i know. i pulled it apart and everything looks good. minus the fact there are no rods but im sure you could find some stockers on here for less than $100. the one i am using i took apart and just putting new bearings in for the hell of it and thats it. as far as shpping goes i have no idea. not really even sure how. but it would only cost you what it cost me. im not into making money on shipping.

Actually, the ej255 has bigger dishes on the pistons than the ej257 too. Thanks for clarifying though. So do you know why the rods aren't included? Did one of them fail? And yes, I have seen stock sti rods for a little over $100 on here, but they would also need to be checked/reconditioned by a shop. Anyway, let me know if you can find out how much shipping to Indiana 47906 is.

huh i didn't know that. i thought that the bigger dishes where in the heads. i must have miss read. i have been doing alot of reading to learn how to do this hybrid build. i really have no idea why there where no rods. when i picked up the blocks i was under the impression that it had rods in it. i got home and pushed on the pistons and they both went in i was like. oh . oh well i got the block i want. the block is one of those things i figured anyone who is going to build a block is going to want to do a hone rings and bearings. im not but i have no money and the stock 99 legacy gt 5sd and i dont want to temp my self with more power or boom. new tranny. no drag racing for nick. i will look into shipping. where should i look? ups?

Yeah, the ej255 has smaller combustion chambers, but bigger dishes on the pistons. They end up with just a hair higher compression ratio from the heads. If you wanted to do a hybrid with ej205 heads, the ej255 shortblock is better because the bigger piston dish means the compression ratio doesn't get so high.

For shipping, ups or fedex. Fedex may very well be cheaper on something so big/heavy. Also, you could ship it my local Subaru dealer. I have friends there, and it would probably be cheaper to send to a business address.

cool good to know. i was going to use the cometic head gaskets also. i heard they are a tiny bit thicker and drop comp a little. so its only the pistons that are diff in the block. i will call tomorrow. should i build a wooden thing for it to sit on. maybe get some big a** zip straps to hold it down. its not that heavy minus the bs. im guessing 50lbs. guessing. good talk jason thanx for the info. i learn more every day. ill keep you posted on shipping and pics.

ok got some pics up but i found 2 bad things today. one of the pistons must have been dropped on the floor because there is a chip out of the skirt. and the crank i thought was perfect but it does have a few tiny tiny pits on the forth rod location. if any one wants more pics just let me know. i want you to know as much as possable esp if i have to ship it.

so we all lost 5 days.... anyone need replyed to from this? i checked into shipping. yay. usps says. $84.25 to cali and $67 to den from pa so im sure this is good to make an estimate. again i am not going to make money on shipping. i will lose money actually. insurance and all. and i have to box it up and take it to the stupid post anywaythats the cost of shipping if you want to figure it out for yourself. 2 boxes one 52lbs one 32lbs box both will be 15 x15 x15. from 15001. the block is torn down and you know everything you are going to get rather then some dude who was told he spun a bearing and is guessing the damage. the machine shop said that to make it perfect the would take a 1000th off. and to do all 4 would be around $100 $125 then you know you have a perfect crank rather than hoping. anyway let me know. new price before shipping. $500 buy it!!! build it! love it!!!
