So they're letting people buy Subaru's to run as customer cars?

I think it's more along the lines as backing a few Subaru cars in IRC

That only means privateers will be able to score points for Subaru. No official involvement is expected.

it is not shown, no.

The coverage isn't quite as good as WRC coverage anyways.

Only if you live in the US where you have to watch on the IRC website. You get live coverage in Europe that's much longer than WRC recaps. It'll be good exposure for Subaru.

This is good news to hear! It's true there really exists no coverage here in the states of the IRC outside the web site, but you can watch an "ok" amount from the site. I do hear though that in Europe the coverage from Eurosport is superb.

I personally think watching P-WRC is awesome! Trouble is, that its barely covered, and the best you can catch is the odd 10 min recap here and there. So bringing the Grp. N car to the IRC is pretty cool. It will be interesting to see who will be driving for them next year in this. I wonder if the IRC will begin to steal "big name" teams/drivers away from the WRC eventually?

so this is Eurosport saying, "screw FIA, we'll form out own league since they're being a-holes"? Glad to see Subaru is joining! In my unprofessional opinion, FIA has screwed over Subaru with the S2000 rules and it's time they paid.

Good move by Subaru.

I have a feeling that IRC will be the dominant rally series in a few years. The manufacturer involvement for 2010 is as good or better than the WRC was in its heyday, and even though there is definitely more "celebrity" drivers currently in WRC. However, plenty of attempts at marketing sports series with big names as your best card has proved to be a very dangerous, and often ill fated move.

That being said, w00t w00t for competition brewing in IRC, and Kimi getting time in a rally car!

I follow the IRC closely. Unfortunately Subaru will only be fielding Grp N cars, so not a whole lot of excitement in this bit of news. Its always funny reading a rally thread on nasioc though

Yeah I thought the top level IRC car where Super2000 cars that Subaru wasn't going to build.

Where's a good place to watch IRC here. Someone mentioned a website (not the IRC one) but I need an invite to get on there apparently LOL. Watching the WRC cars was cool because they we're the pinnacle of rallying technology available, but their just too damn expensive to run. I like watching the Group N cars, their much more similar to a a road car then the WRC car's ever we're LOL. And the IRC seems to have some great events.

I think they'll consider the s2000 and group N cars to be on an equal playing field.
