So I was somewhat intrigued by the recent dyno plots from Phil's VF30 car and wasn't to terribly pleased with the lag of the 1820. I offered to trade my 1820 for the VF30 + some cash from Crazy Al's STi motor. It went on the car today. Man, this turbo ROCKS. A perfect belnd of response and top end kick. It is not quite as strong as the PE1820 up top, but the torque delivery below 4k rpms more than makes up for it.
After the install, I drove to Bradens and had him install the 3rd cat elim for me. The turbo woke up that much more. I'm sure it could have done a little to help the 1820, but I'm more than happy with the VF30. This turbo at the same boost levels should be good for at least a tenth since it spools so much faster. I was wrapping the car out to 7500rpm (gotta love adjustable rev limiters) and I would still have about a half second to wait for the PE1820 to come back online at full boost. The VF30 is there when the clutch comes out. I'll take it to PMI on the 31st for the first night of Friday night drags.
