Default front driver's side rattle????

I have searched through the threads and found nothing about what I'm dealing with. I just started hearing a clunking or rattling noise under my feet when I drive over small cracks or bumps at slower speeds(<35mph) but really haven't tested much. I just went under the car and noticed that the driver's side axle and boot had a thin layer of grease coating it. it also moved if i pushed perpendicular on the fat part next to the front diff. and made that same rattle noise. the passenger side had no grease on it but it could move a little when i pushed on it but it didn't make the same metal on metal rattle sound.

Couple of questions: should the axle move like that or should it be relatively stable. should I replace the whole axle or just regrease and boot. Lastly is this even the problem, could it be something else?

Thanks in advance...

The CV axles are going to move in a plunging movement usually a wear sign of these axles will be a clicking or atleast in my experience this is what happened, check your crossmembers and balljoints.

Alright, well..... Bisache - do you have an upgraded pitch mount? If so, what kind? I was driving yesterday with my girlfriend in the passenger seat & we were trying to figure out where the rattle was coming from. Before, I thought it was the driver's side. Now, I'm almost positive it's coming from the center of the car. I.E.- where my Ingalls pitch mount is. I think my issue may be the Ingalls unit itself, as it has a spherical bearing on one end that seems to be prone to rattling. I would just swap it out for the stocker, but I don't think the stock unit would transfer enough noise to tell if the rattle is still there if the problem is NOT the Ingalls unit. I'm trying to track down a cheap Kartboy unit & will report back when I know more.... Anyone else have any leads?
