VR6 vs. 1.8t
1.8t vs. WRX

WRX vs. VR6 - reach given mph, downshift start

Then if they want, 1.8t vs. VR6, highway.

wrx smokes them all...why bother? are u trying to see by how much a vw is gonna lose by or something like that?

You're missing the point. My bet is that the Vw is faster than anything over the 1/4. I don't know about you, but there have been several times I've had a highspeed sprint on the highway with another car. I'm not much of a drag queen, I love the highspeed stuff.

We're doing the WRX vs. VW stuff mainly because Lee and I want to see how much it smokes them. A stock WRX isn't untouchable. Seeing as how most of the guys are hitting low 14's in their WRX's around here, an LSD/Quaife setup in an otherwise stock VR6 will put him there. Sure, mod for mod nothing can touch a WRX. But that won't change the fact that a VR6 will start playing catchup after 65. If the race starts at 65, I'm willing to bet it'll pull and walk. Stock for stock.

I want to prove it. If I'm wrong, so what? A little blow to my ego. If I'm right however, maybe you guys will quit underestimating it. It's not all about the 1/4, and not every WRX owner is going to mod theirs to be 11-12 second beasts. If I owned a VR6 as my main car, 3.67 gears and 268 cams will smoke the majority of WRX's in town for less than $1500, and that would be enough for me. No contest after 55. I might think differently if the WRX had longer gears and a wider powerband, but it doesn't. You guys respect the Type R, but the VR6 is right up there with a $1k in mods.

You guys may think I'm bringing Lee's car into this equation the majority of the time but I'm not. I'm doing this for my own interest because I intend to get another one. It just so happens Lee wants to know the same thing. I've owned nothing but a VR6 for the last five years and I know what it's capable of.

I guess if you want to see how fast you can go over 65, then I know you will beat me, since I like being able to drive.

How ofter do you find yourself trying to accelerate faster than someone at 65?

Maybe I am just getting old and responsible, but that just seems like a good way to get yourself on some SR22 insurance, and that means driving a used Yugo.

but thats just me.....Kris

Well how much more Rich does it make your Car run? A little Rich would actully give you more power. But regardless that is pretty much stock.

how does it make you run rich? with an intake more air should be coming through and more fuel is burned...if anything you should be leaner???

Got the PM. Thanks

I think Code-7 is getting a little touchy. Just to let you know, I'm full of jokes and usually instigate the conversation or line of questioning. Will the WRX beat the Dub? I don't know and don't really care. It is just nice to see what the car is capapble of.
Quote:

I don't believe my car is the fastest and will never claim that it can beat anything out there. If I want a faster car then I would get something with more displacement. Nothing will ever replace displacement. It is just fun to modify my existing ride and bring it to its full potential. I'm rooted in Dubs and Hondas and like seeing other people modify their cars, too. I'd even support a Honda guy trying to build an 8 second car. I just enjoy working on cars.

Neither am I, and I think you should take that Dub for a three wheel around some of the auto-X courses.

As for SR-22 insurance, remember that guy Miguel. He has SR-22 insurance and pays somewhere around $700 a month for coverage.

Oh and racing Bill off the line is Responsible . Thats a street racing ticket, even if you didn't get over the speed limit.

Anyway, I just want to see if the VR6 does pull. Almost every WRX ower I talked to (Some here, but most here are kewl about it) think that the WRX is unstopable. Don't get me wrong I love the car to death. But all the hype about the car doing this and doing that makes me wonder. Can it really do it? Its seid that the WRX can do 140mph. Can it? How long does it take to get there? I'm a driver and I test cars to the limit, both in acceleration and top speed if possiable. I want to know what is it capable of instead of just reading numbers in a magazine. But, for some thats enough I guess.

A car to me has to be fun to drive. I want to feel the forces in turns, the throw back feeling of acceleration the road in the wheel and pushing the car to the limit. Thats driving, some people only like straight lines. One reason I own the VR6 is because its always underestimated. I like it when I surprise people in Alaska. In the Lower 48 the VR6 is well known. Its not to be underestimated, and Kevin and I want to see what it will do up againest the King of the streets (FOR NOW) the WRX.

Wait until the Lancer EVO VII is here. It is even easier to get power out of

All I am saying is that I want to get my Dub into the 13's and then I am done. I could go get some Drag-Radials and get me there probably alot faster and cheaper, but my goal is to hit 13's on the track and on the street (If that makes sence). I mean I could roll around town with some DR's on but I dont think it would be to smart.

And I wouldnt mind doing some Auto-X stuff, lets see how it turns out after the Spring Install. Because the Stock ones are way to soft.

You know I see your problem. You're on a board with a bunch of WRX owners. I don't think I'll be surprised when winter rolls around. I'm sure if you go to the VW board you'll see just the opposite. A good example is the crazy fools on the Kia site. Calling the WRX the king of the street is definitely the wrong idea. There are many cars out there that will have the WRX for lunch even some Dubs. Of course the frequency of that happening is very low but it is possible. I think I've had this conversation with KapaFool and most recently with Min.

You forget the EVO is going to be a brand new car with no aftermarket. This is one of the biggest problems for the WRX. I'm surprised at the amount of parts that have come out for the WRX in such a short time but we are still way behind compared to the DSMs. How do you figure the EVO will be easier to extract power out of?

There is a huge aftermaket for the Lancer in Europe right now. It is the hottest car to get. Some of the aftermarket shops are just waiting for the US market to open up for the car. Just a boost controller will put the Lancer in 330bhp. Its nuts what the guys over seas can do to that car with little mods.
