If they can order brand new blanks from the factory for less money than used JDM, meaning I won't have to worry about the shape they're in when they show up, and it will perform better, there isn't really a question there. Yes, it went against what I saw as "common" forum knowledge, but I trusted these guys. They know the magic. I have not been disappointed in my decision.

Note: I actually called Cosworth and another "Monster" engine builder as well. Cosworth flat out told me they don't do custom (meaning no O-rings and "normal" cams), though they would allow me to select their common stage motors. The "Monster" vendor apparently didn't have time to call me back.

With these heads, I'm making the same HP on the WG spring as I was with 32psi from the same turbo on the stock EJ257. I was expecting 26psi or so to get to that level. Again, I am not disappointed.

The only other facts I can tell you is that everyone I told about this asked me the same question you did, and everyone who actually saw the heads before they were all bolted up said "Wow!

I have heard from someone very that really knows their headporting/heads and he said that the wrx heads actually port out really really well, I was going to get a set of sti heads to port and throw on later for the 40r but he said the wrx 2.0 heads will port out better...I think he said something about the dog leg or the valve guide/stem or something.... I dunno I don't do porting thats what I heard from the man though...Maybe he will see this and chime in...

I completely missed this thread in December!! My car only puts out a measly 330 to the wheels, so i avoid this forum when i can, it makes me feel inadequate.

It's been a couple of years since I last thought about this, but I was thinking the bore was the same. I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong. The chambers were opened up a few cc, but not as big as the 257 heads.

Yeah, he's still around. Moved the shop from the airport to his farm near Cumby.

Last time I was out there he was fixing his John Deere, where the rats chewed through the low pressure hydraulic line. He modified the hard boost line off a WRX to replace it. Should have taken a picture of FHI on the Deere, but didn't think about it till the covers were back on.

We're really trying to make it out to the desert in October...

If that goes well, then Scott has promised we can run the car at the dragstrip afterwards.

So here's to hoping!

In the meantime we have to design an entirely new turbo system...Scott wants a 'real' turbo...as he calls it.

I might come out to IFO just to run my car in the fun runs...The landshark isn't slated to be finished untill early next year.

If we make it to the mile really depends on whether or not the dates conflct with the races in the desert like they did last year. We're really hoping to make it out...not going at all this year has made us both a little sad.

Not likely I'll be able to make the 400 mile trip for IFO. Been working 7 days a week since March, and on-call 24x7 since Dec 1st last year. It's pretty much shut down anything car or fun related.

I can't make any promises on next year until the work issues are resolved, which most likely means finding a new job.

Time will tell.

Yeah, this thread is closing on 3 years old. Not really sure why it needed the bump. There are probably some old pictures posted around here somewhere, but it's changed since then.

No need for a gear change, for 6th it's 200mph@8Krpm.
