Post my theory on 'hesitation'...

it always happens when i'm going from partial to full throttle, right around 4k rpm...could this be the computer switching parameters(fuel curves) to compensate for higher throttle position?? what do you think?

We came to that conclusion a few months ago. I've been looking at the A/F meter but all I see is that the car runs rich.

Digging this one up... the hesitation can't have anything to do with the stock computer...

Basically because I don't have one anymore... I'm running the TEC-II with my turbo... and I'm starting to get that hesitation at 4000... I think it's something with the cam stock cam profile. Feels like the timings being retarded by the car... which the TEC can do...

I first thought it might have been retard from knock, but I disabled that function in the TEC and it still does it. So it's gotta be something mechanical that's doing it.

The only thing that I can relate it to now is the drop in the power that the engine makes. The recently posted dyno results from Shiv's east coast tuning showed a drop of about 20 ft/lbs at this rpm before it comes back on again. So... go figure... somethings definitly wacky though.

The hesitation went away on my car at around 2000 miles. Didn't change anything. Just went away and hasn't come back. Since then, I've added a K&N filter, intake, and cat-back exhaust, and it still hasn't crept up.

Mine's a lot better than it was (8200 miles now) but I've noticed when it does do it, I've always got the a/c on.

Now, I'm not saying there's a direct relationship, but maybe it's hot days, or the a/c is on the same cct as a relay in the ignition - something along those lines (shrug)

But you're right about going from half throttle to mashing the gas, that's exactly when it does it. I'd maybe expect a little lag, but a hiccup? Nah.

hey guys

i've put 12k miles on so far, and it's still there...

i kinda like it, it just seems like it's taking a second to regroup and then whoop your ass into the proverbial second gear...

and lately, i've noticed that it happenes in more than just second gear for me...

sometimes when the engine is cold, sometimes when the engine is hot... sometimes on cold days, sometimes on hot days...

never always there, and when i try to reproduce what i did when it does happen, i can't make it do it again...

anywho, i kinda like it - scary that it happens, but makes if feel turbo-ey

heh, i've got my friend convinced that there's a little turbo action going on in there

later guys

EDIT - spelling

I'm going in for my 30K check-up and O2 recall tomorrow. I'll ask the service rep about the hesitation problem. I've still got it at 30,000+.

I am probably way off, but I read somewhere about the volumetric efficency of the intake manifold creating a supercharging like effect from the pulses of the valves opening and closing. It gives you more power, but only at a certain rpm and will take away horsepower to a certain extent right before it helps. Maybe someone else knows more about this.

Here ya go I found the post: http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Foru...ML/001451.html

You guys are all way off base!! I know exactly what the reason for the feeling your getting.
It is in essence "Hesitation". But not from the motor.

You see, for some strange reason, right around that RPM range your motor creates some very unusual harmonic resonance. What this does, is lullaby your monkey to sleep. Then when you step hard on the gas, the sleeping monkey is slammed into the back of the trunk. That is the what the percieved "hesitation" really is.<IMG SRC="http://www.ihs4ever.com/~cwm/contrib/ruinkai/biglaugh.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://www.ihs4ever.com/~cwm/contrib/ruinkai/biglaugh.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://www.ihs4ever.com/~cwm/contrib/ruinkai/biglaugh.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://www.ihs4ever.com/~cwm/contrib/ruinkai/biglaugh.gif" border=0>
