For those considering replacing their heavy stock front bumper beam with the lightweight JDM beam, now there is a better alternative. The Oswald Performance Front Bumper Beam is a direct replacement for the stock beam on your 2002 - 2007 Impreza. It weighs approximately 6 lbs (compared to 27.75 lbs for the USDM beam and 10.5 lbs for the JDM beam) and it offers far more crash protection than the JDM beam which consists of a single steel tube. It also comes complete with a removable, red powdercoated, steel tow hook for track events or any towing needs.

Dropping over 20 lbs from the very front of the Impreza chassis has a very noticable effect on the car's handling performance. Understeer is reduced and turn-in is quicker and more precise. The car just feels more eager to change direction. Although less noticable, the weight reduction will also subtly increase the car's acceleration and decrease tire and brake wear.

For Off-Highway use only.

2002 - 2007 Impreza $275 Shipped* (7 in stock)

Rear Tow Hooks available for an additional $35.

* Shipping to lower 48 States is included (AK, HI, and International shipping will cost extra).

Check out the website for more info and pictures or to place an order:

The Oswald Performance Rear Bumper Beam is a direct replacement for the stock beam on your 2002 - 2007 Impreza. It weighs approximately 7 lbs, compared to the 28 lb stock beam.

While the handling improvement is not quite as dramatic as replacing the front bumper beam, dropping 21 lbs from the very rear helps to further reduce the car's polar moment of inertia. This makes the car easier to rotate, allowing quicker turn-in and transitions. Of course, the weight reduction will also subtly increase the car's acceleration and maximum cornering grip while decreasing tire and brake wear.

The Oswald Performance Rear Bumper Beam consists of two Steel Mounting Brackets (powdercoated for corrosion protection), the Aluminum Beam, and four high-strength bolts to attach the Beam to the Brackets.

For Off-Highway use only.

Received and installed your bumper beam, loving the result and amazingly surprise of the weight difference. Can send pics if need be....

January or February is the plan. I'm working on it but more pressing things keep distracting me.

No sir. Any FMIC that requires removal of the stock beam would likely not fit with the Oswald Performance beam.

Going to start on a lightweight Impreza project, already took 40 pounds off the front. Just wondering at what point the car will start sitting up higher in front, your beam would be perfect for what I am doing.

The amount the car will raise up depends on your spring rates but here is an example:

if you have 300 lb./in. springs in the front then your car will sit an inch higher for every 600 lbs. (300 x 2 because there are two springs) you remove from the front end. Of course it would be very hard to take out 600 lbs. but you can use this to calculate that if you take 100 lbs. out then it will raise the front by 1/6 of an inch, and so on.

This all assumes that the weight is coming from directly above the front axle line. Any weight you remove behind the front axles will have less of an effect on the front height since the rear springs will see a percentage of the weight loss. Alternatively, any weight removed from in front of the front axles (like the bumper beam) will have a greater effect on the front ride height and will actually cause the rear end to drop very slightly.

Thanks,

Mickey

I thought if I put in some STI springs, though higher rate, will drop the front slightly to balance out the effect of weight reduction nicely.

I meant leaving the springs in the back stock. I heard that to prevent fishtailing, it is nice to have relatively soft back springs anyway.

BTW, I went to your website, the subframe looks really nice, but it's too expensive for me. Do you distribute these products through any Subaru dealers, maybe one day?

Yes, the STI springs should drop the car due to being shorter in length and the higher rate will make the ride height less sensitive to changes in weight.

Yes, that should prevent fishtailing by giving the rear more grip but that means shifting the car's balance toward understeer at the limit. There's always a compromise.

Thanks. I can see some shops like Turn in Concepts carrying my parts in the future but for now they are only available directly from Oswald Performance.

Yes, progress has been slow on the bugeye beams but I am working on it. I can definitely give you a little better price if you order a package deal like that. Just send me an e-mail when you are ready to order (when the '02-'03 beams are ready, I guess).

Haha, yes we are working on them. The "test bugeye" is coming over next weekend to test fit the latest prototype. Once we test it and incorporate any changes that may be required I will finish the drawings and send them to the laser cutter's. I expect them to be available around the end of February.
