Default PCV valve replacement interval

I have done a search and have found responses anywhere from 15k -60k miles for this replacement. Does anyone know what Subaru recommends for a PCV valve replacement interval?

Thanks

On one of my purolator oil filter boxes, it said do it every 12,000 miles (every year for the average driver). It's a cheap item, so that's what I'm going to go with.

I looked, but couldn't find what subaru recommended.

Uh oh.... I have 45k on my car and I haven't changed the PCV valve once! Have I caused any damage to my engine?

Does anyone else care to offer information on the replacement interval??

According to this thread, subaru recommends every 15,000 miles

http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=155174

It also has some good info on the pcv too.

Heres a question - may be somewhat retarded since I havent actually done it yet...

Does an oil catch can replace the function of the PCV valve? Is it removed, or still there just relieving the pressure to the catch can?

Just curious. Thanks,
Jim

I believe if you have an oil catch can, you still need the PCV valve to regulate the release of blow-by gases into the can.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Anyways, I did pick up a PCV replacement valve today at Autozone, it was only 2.50.

I would say rather than outright replace the PCV every fixed interval, just pull it every 15-20K and check the spring and pressure holding. If the ball moves freely and the spring is still working, just slap it back in. I've pulled PCV valves with over 30K miles and they look and work like brand new. If you're anal, go ahead and replace it every 20K. It's cheap and easy enough.

In the old days the valve was just press fitted into a rubber grommet in the valve cover. It was easy to pop it out and do a rattle test. If it rattled it was fine. Every once in a while it was good to spray some carb cleaner in it to get any gunk off. Now it's sort of a PITA (relatively speaking) to change it out. If you are going to go through the trouble to take it out and check, you might as well change it I say.

Question

What is the tightening torque spec for the PCV valve?

the above pics are from the page I did on our scoobymods site here:

I comment about the install. It seems the threads on the valve are tapered. I couldn't find a torque spec so I did it till it was snug. I put some teflon tape on the threads for good measure.
