Default Cadillac's New Flagship Saloon

Quote:
adillac isnít saying what the car in this teaser picture released this morning is, but itís likely to reveal the brandís new flagship saloon currently known as XTS, the name used inside GM.If that proves accurate, it takes the new saloon a step closer to production, probably as a 2012 model, when it would replace Cadillacís US market STS and DTS. Neither of these models have fared well in the hotly competitive luxury market.

The XTS will continue the Art and Science design language used most notably in the smaller CTS, but will feature a more elegant and less edgy overall shape. It will bring a definite move up-market from the current STS, but maintain that carís rear-wheel-drive layout.

Cadillac will also use the Detroit show to reveal its latest performance model, the CTS V Coupe.

If it follows the path of the CTS V saloon, the two-door will be powered by a supercharged, Corvette-derived LSA 6.2-litre V8, which produces 548bhp and 551lb ft of torque.

Expect a 0-60mph time of under 4 seconds and a top speed Ė for the manual transmission model Ė of at least 191mph.
Caddy is expected to use both the XTS and new CTS Coupe to help it expand overseas, particularly in the fast-growing Chinese market.

The car will go on sale next summer.

They should get away from the Art and Science design language. Time for a new design language..

More dog**** from GM. Epic FAIL. I hope they sell it only in China. They should make it there, too, so that we never have to see it. Plus they would not have to pay burdensome union hacks to take breaks while the car is built by robots.

Yeah, they need to get away from the design language that made them viable and go back to:

and:

Seriously?

The STS was a bit to tight in the rear, and the interior was not up to snuff. With the redesign of the STS taking over for it and the DTS, Cadillac will have a complete and rational lineup for the first time in a long time.

Oh boy! Time to jump on the "Let's slam every stroy that mentions GM!" bandwagon.

There are a lot of reasons to be angry with GM, but the new direction Cadillac has be taking is not one of them. As far as cars go, Cadillac is making a better product than they've ever made and better than much of the competition.

I hate GM as much as the next guy for the poor decisions they've made, but you need to give credit where it's due. Cadillac is finally on the path to making a world-class car that will hopefully restore some trust and admiration to the America car makers. There is no reason the American's cannot make world-class cars again. We just need to knuckle down and get serious. It seems like Cadillac is getting serious. So is Ford. The rest of GM needs some work (well a lot actually). Chrysler... well that may be hopeless.

I'd have to agree Cadillac is getting its product range in the correct boxes. I was watching the CTS-V challenge on the Speed Channel this weekend, at the Cadillacs did a very good job. I didn't watch all of it, but from what I saw, the CTS-V's were all in the top 4. I would like to see the factory drivers go after eachother on the track to see the cars pushed to the abselute limits. Having the owners of the challenging cars drive there own cars against factory owned cars just isn't the same thing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder, but you must've been drinking some skunky beer to make you cross.

The design language of the CTS is far and away the best look Cadillac's ever had by a distance greater than the width of the Pacific ocean.

That's not to say they're the best-looking cars on the market, but everything else they've ever made has looked like vomit.

I just find caddys ugly, all of them. although the majority of new cars are ugly I guess.

The only one that is even passable in my opinion is the XLR.

Really?! If you asked me I would say the XLR is by far the worst looking car in their new line-up.

Well, Cadillac must be doing something right in their designs because it's selling very well.

Although the latest STS leaves a lot to be desired, while it vaguely resembles a CTS, it has none of its swagger nor performance. Hopefully the XTS is America's first credible rival to the Lexus LS and BMW 7-Series.

Don't know about that. There was a time, long before most of us were born, when Cadillac made about the best cars in the world.

I am driving an STS-V, got it used in the spring so I do not hate the design. But man it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Contrary to what the article says, the XTS is supposed to use a stretched version of the Epsilon 2 platform, which means transverse engines and FWD, probably with an AWD option.

So they're basically merging the STS and DTS into one car, not building a Caddy S-Class.
