Default 2004 STI Seems to be using oil

So I bought this motor after I blew my other motor and the motor has ran mobile 1 its entire life or so the guy before me says the motor has like 35k miles on it. But it seems to be using oil i Keep adding the recommended weight by the oil cap in full synth. Should I try to not use full synth and see if it still uses oil?

There are many more viscosities allowed other than what's on the cap. Has the PCV been replace lately? How much are you using? Mods?

First step is to switch to a more robust oil. If you want to stay with M1, try M1 High Mileage, M1 0W-40, or M1 T&SUV 5W-40.

so sying 'mobil1 full synth' means NOTHING

also
the OTHER point here is....

Quote:
recommended weight by the oil cap
the above is the MOST ridiculous farce foisted upon subadu owners by subaru and that ****ing oil cap should be recalled as the reason FOR SO FUCING MANY OF THESE ENGINES BLOWING THE **** UP.
5w30 is 'recommended' for FUEL ECONOMY ONLY AND NOT FOR ****ING PERFORMANCE OR ENGINE LONGEVITY OF ANY SORT AND SHOULD BE DISMISSED AS A BAD IDEA BY MOST OF US

IF THE ENGINE IS 'USING OIL' THAT MEANS THAT YOU ARE PUTTING THE WRONG ****ING OIL IN IT...SO STOP

I just get really irritated when good cars get ****ed up for no reason

and the '5w30' myth and M1 are a PERFECT combination to blow **** right up

there are several GREAT M1 oils.....but the average lemming out there know nothing of motor oil and virtually ALWAYS picks the WRONG one and blows his **** up

that makes me mad

I am planning on using either the Rotella T 5w40 or Renewable Lubricants BioSyn 5W-40HD when I get my car back personally.

take it to the dealer and have them start an oil consumption test, at the dealer I work at we do it for free. Test would take place over the coarse of ~3k miles taking back in to the dealer every 1k. That will tell you if you need a new engine.

Why bother on an 04 with no warranty...you can track consumption yourself.
Compression and leak down will tell the tale. Look for sputtering oil on the muffler and smoke under boost or WOT. Could be the hotside seal on the turbo. I've had two VF series turbo's go.

Also, when I had my cracked ring-land... when the car was hot(not always the case on every car but it was with mine) if i took off the oil cap I would see light smoke coming out. Also, I had NO smoke coming out anywhere but there and my ring-land was EFFED(pic below). Catts were doing their job still. Hope that's not your case, good luck!
