was just curious what the stock sway bar sizes were. just a guess but if the front sway was say, 20 mm, and the rear was 15 mm, then to acheive nuetral-steer i would want to upgrade the rear sway to 20 mm? im a complete noob at this and was just wondering. i have some pretty nasty understeer on my 09 impreza and was wondering what it would take to get to nuetral, or possibly over steer, beyond adding a negative camber and messing with toe and caster. any help is greatly appreciated. my impreza is a DD but i still make agressive turns and experience loads of understeer in it.

Front is 20mm stock. I don't think the new Imprezas come with a rear sway bar.. I have a 20mm rear sway bar and I love it.

chazly413 is right, the new 2.5i don't have a rear sway bar, that's one thing you can add to get better handling. Getting a stock wrx rear sway bar should be good for starters. I'm not sure what size the front sway bar is.

If the car were 50-50 weight distribution and the spring rates were the same and everything, maybe, but it's not perfectly neutral. Basically, it's not that simple.

Ive been looking into this a bit lately as i will be getting one soon.
if your looking to upgrade your front bar without modification to your piping, the only bars (that ive been able to find) that will fit the 08+ na are the rallitek 22mm front and one single na specific 22mm whiteline adjustable bar (BSF35Z). Neither are going to be a super dramatic handling difference but it should be noticeable now the rear bar will be a quite drastic difference seeing as there just isnt one. Either get one off a WRX or STI if your looking for the cheap route or get some after market bar if you want to go a little stiffer or just want something shiny and new. Any 08+ should fit fine |

if you get big bars make sure your endlinks can handle it. im not familiar with the new subies but the older ones had plastic endlinks that could snap. also, make sure to reinforce the mounts on the rear. the rear bar on my '04 is still the biggest difference of anything i have put on my car, and the only stock things on it are wheels control arms and motor mounts. btw, if you remove weight from the front, it will help reduce understeer, without inducing oversteer. for example, deleting fog lights or A/C. good luck and safe motoring!

I have a 2011 Subaru 2.5i (non-turbo), I'm trying to figure out what the best sway bars, front and back, I should put on it. Also, I was wondering how difficult the job would be to do it myself? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I would suggest using a setup that has understeer, aka a front bar that's larger than the rear sway bar. As for size, brand, and endlinks, I suggest you research which you should get. The install is fairly simple and shouldn't take more than an hour for the front and rear. Just make sure to install them while the car is on ramps or the ground so that the suspension is under load.

Don't bother in changing the front. Its already a decent one and to find a proper one that fits will costs for minor gains if any
On the rear sway, pre-2008, a rear sway upgrade was a god thing and very cheap. Most n/a impreza had 13mm bar and going to 20mm bar was great to make it neutral balance On new suspension on 08+ impreeza, its different. Multi-link suspension and all. I went to whiteline adjustable bar and wasn't big improvement Check James Wilson thread. He added a still bar on his 2012 impreza and was cheap upgrade. For your 08+ impreza. Could be a decent upgrade with extra parts needed to install rear bar |
