Default Latest Generation of Impreza - 08-10?

Greetings all - I've spent most of my time over in the Baja forum (for what I hope are obvious reasons).

But last night the wife brought home a second Scoobie - this time an Impreza Wagon. Very nice, can't wait to drive it.

We were looking at some possible accessories (maybe going with a hitch so we can use hitch-mounted racks) and I noticed there seems to be a break on hitch fitting between 2007 and 2008.

Does that represent a break in design for items other than say the exhaust or undercarriage where the hitch mounts - or is that an indication that the 08-10 represent the latest generation/design of the whole chassis?

Just curious for future parts crossovers etc.

I know the rear suspension is an entirely new design, Starting with the '08s its been extensively redesigned from the previous generation.

Pretty much anything suspension related will not switch between 07 and 08+.

No idea on hitches. The 08 cars switched from the previous Impreza platform to a variant of the pre-2010 Legacy platform. No chassis bracing that I'm aware of will swap 07 to 08+. I'm betting the hitches don't swap, but I might be wrong.

Ah, suspension differences could easily explain the difference I seem to be seeing in hitch availability. Excellent thanks.

How about interiors?

Like the dash, I notice the radio is on top, followed by heater vents and heater controls - that's different from my 06 Baja (with the Legacy chassis) - anyone have any idea how long the current interior set-up has been used?

And I'm looking into the DRL issue - trying to figure out if the module is behind the glove box or under the air box (or if there are two).

I might have my answer already from the Electrical sub-forum

So Jeff, did you try this, did it work for your non WRX Impreza?

EXCELLENT! Thanks for getting back to me.

So our generation 2.5i Imprezas seem to have that same module under the airbox - we can just unplug it and go!

I'll report back to confirm once done!

Correct, but I haven't verified it on our new car yet.

2008+ is all new outside and inside. I think that radios, in general, are being moved up to the top of the dash in most cars, as that's where the OEM Navigation systems are the most usable. If you don't get the Nav option, then you just get a factory stereo in the same location.

Yeah, I was thinking that was the reasoning behind it. Makes perfect sense.

Jenn's last car was an 03 Mini Cooper S - but it had a separate OEM NAV system mounted up high and the stereo still down in the previously more common location. OF course, they still have the stereos down low but that's because of the trademark center mounted speedo on models without built-in NAV.

Found the card - I gotta take a better pic of the exterior outside to really show the tint, but this will have to do for now.

Just got back from our first real road trip (skiing in VT).

Got a solid 28 mpg running 75 mph on the highway with E10 in the tank.

Must have somehow gotten a tank of non-E10 on the way home cause INSTANTLY went to 31-32 mpg under the same conditions pulling back onto the highway from that gas fill (and for the whole rest of the trip home).

Most counties around Philly too... though I DO believe there are a couple of non-E10 gas stations in the greater Lancaster County area. Not worth the special trip though...
