Default Turbo Oil Feed Line Filter

The filter that is on the end of the banjo bolt on the oil feed line, does that need to be replaced or can i just take the filter out? Upgrading to an 18g, I know my friend that has an STi took the filter out completely, just wondering if this is dangerous or should i just spend the 13.00 and get a new filter?

I'm not sure if I'm talking about the same part as you, but I think some larger turbos need the filter removed because they need to get more oil quicker.

Not a very helpful answer, I know, sorry.
