Default Is an 08 Forestor Turbo shortblock same as STI??

I was thinking of building one & am wondering if anyone truely knows if its all the same stuff? From what Ive been told its 500 cheaper from the dealer, but ALL im using is the case & putting sti internals & forged pistons in the 2 block halves. I was told all the part #'s for parts inside were the same, but I really just need to be %100 sure

Im getting half people saying one thing & half saying the other

'08 forester xt has the same shortblock as the legacy gt, 2008+ wrx. Crank and rods have the same part numbers as an 04-07 sti but pistons are different.

Last edited by theotherguy; 01-09-2010 at 12:35 AM. Reason: clarify crank and rods

From the info available here on Nasioc, the only difference between the STi block and the other blocks are a small difference in dish volume in the pistons.

If you're replacing the pistons, there is going to be zero difference.

^^ yes, the pistons are going to be replaced & I am not buying this new, just a deal on an old shortblock from an 08 forester. that spun a bearing

ANY1 have any other sti or same shortblock cores thats not in bad shape? like spun a bearing, even if its just the 2 block halves, please let me know, would rather not use or take/ buy anything thats in bad shape (like a cracked cyl wall) thats a little too much work I dont feel like doing (replacing the sleeve)

thank you

So what does it mean when a "Specialist" has a fundemental question about short blocks? NASIOC must be giving away that designation like the swine flu!

An EJ255 block will not be $500 cheaper than an EJ257 block. Hell, there difference between an EJ205 and EJ257 is only $300. Expect prices to be the same or within ~$50.

Put whoever told you that in time out.

DOHC 16 valve turbo. Originally designed for the North American Impreza STI in 2004 with AVCS and DBW. Not the same exact shortblock as EJ255. The EJ255 has a different domed piston vs the EJ257. Subaru of America designates the same part numbers for an EJ255 shortblock, and EJ257 shortblock with the exception of the pistons.

Usage:

US Market Impreza WRX STi MY04~MY07 (300 hp, 293 hp (New SAE standard))
US Market Impreza WRX STI MY08~MY10 (305 hp (New SAE standard))
Asian, European Market Impreza WRX STi 05~present (280 hp, 40KGh/m)
JDM Forester STI MY05~present

This really ought to be a sticky.

Quote:
There are two variants of the EJ255 shortblock. The first EJ255 shortblock used in the 05/06 Legacy GT, 04/05 *CORRECTED* Forester, and the Turbo Baja is identical to the EJ257 shortblock.

Thus you want to avoid grouping all EJ255 motors together, as the statements saying such would be incorrect. The correct way would be to either indicate the SB number 10103xxyyy.
/thread.

The 04/05 FXTs have the EJ257 block, but it's labeled "EJ255".

The 06+ FXTs have the same block as the 06+ WRX, the EJ255.

Might want to change your sig/vehicle description. You're not making 500 whp.

^^?? You might wanna ask b4 assuming. Its all good tho, not too hard to believe, the just about 400whp was on 91 oct alone 23psi

30r stock motor/clutch 11.2/127 1.60 60's made 484.7whp/496.6tq on 27psi c-16 , I can say 500whp cuz at one point while tuning it was up to 530whp before it was backed down for all the stock parts (motor/trans/clutch) clutch never slipped once
