Couldn't find mention of it in Alan Korwin's book, either. Also the mentioned 5 inches thing... did they change the law? I recall it being ambiguous and left up to discretion -- partly visible.

I heard from someone on here, can't recall exactly who at the moment, that you can also buy a handgun if you're 18 if it's from a private party not from an actual gun store?

you can HAVE a handgun. and private party usually doesnt check ID. but when you buy a gun you sign a form that says you aren't buying it for a minor.

The CMP is receiving a huge load of M1s from South Korea along with a bunch of M1 carbines. If you have never heard of the Civilian Marksmanship Program you need to REALLY LOOK INTO IT if you want a Garand.

Basically once you qualify for membership, you can buy US surplus M1s from $495 up to $1k for unissued ones.

The Sig 556 is their copy of the Sig Arms 550 that the Swiss military uses. An excellent rifle. If you buy one e, get one of the newer models like the SWAT or the Classic. I have heard the 1st gen models had problems with finish and had crappy iron sights.

They are very reliable, its similar mechanically to an AK, and decently accurate. It probably wont shoot as accurate as a decent AR but its definitely combat accurate out to several hundred yards.

My only gripe is that they are a bit front heavy.

Bunch of us from work went down and took the AZ CCW class via BlackWolf.

This was my Qual. target.
Shots are:
Practice: 5 yds (15ft) to the head
Qual. required 10 rnds @ 5 yds and 10 rnds @ 10 yds to center mass.
Used my XD .45

I'm shooting a bit left... and I need to find a good/cheap gun smith as my XD malfunctioned twice.

Any input on one?

Any idea when they come in? I'm familiar with CMP, I was hoping the price would drop down some on the rack grade Garands

Guys who want M1 Garands..... You know you cant just shoot any 30-06 rounds through the gun right? The gun was designed around a specific load used back then that has a different pressure than modern loads. Shooting normal hunting/target rounds through the Garand can bend the op rod.

To remedy this you either need to use military surplus ammo, again CMP sells this stuff for cheap. Or you need to buy and instal an aftermarket adjustable gas port to adjust the pressure cycling the action.

Tix, How many rounds do you have through your XD? Many autos take a few boxes of ammo to smooth out the action. Bad magazines are the number one culprit for jamming up autos.

Well actually its more likely limp wristing the gun, but you arent doing that are you???

Thats some decent shooting there though. A couple of stragglers there to the bottom means you're probably anticipating the shot. Some good dry firing will help this a lot. I did A LOT of that in the academy and my shooting improved remarkably. I still do it on a fairly regular basis and have started to shoot competitively on the department. Nothing serious though, just the monthly match and the yearly state wide match.

Also next time you go to the range buy a couple snap caps. They are plastic rounds that will cycle through the weapon but obviously wont fire. Put one or two randomly in your mag. If you have good trigger control, when you hit the snap cap your front sight shouldnt move. If it drops you are anticipating.

Also dont use the dots on the sights for accuracy. Line up the top of the rear sight with the top of the front. Then slowly squeeze the trigger with the pad of the tip of your finger while focusing on the front sight. I usually think to myself "front sight, front sight, front sight" over and over while Im shooting. It sounds silly, but it does make you concentrate on the front sight. The shot should almost surprise you.

specially with a .45 because it's a slower velocity, not having a tight grip with that caliber makes more of a difference than a 9 or 40
