All good insight. I do focus on the front and align with the back though. In all honestly, I am prob. anticipating even though freakin try to control it.

The strays you speak of are the two malfunctions (ie: misfires).
Prob.1 - With slide open, slap a new mag in - but aim down range.
Result = slide auto close and (prob 2) first round fires off ... **Yes, Finger OFF the trigger! **
That first shot is the one in the white next to the head. The Second was me going 'WTF' and having a second round go off an hit in the gut.

I have seen the 'auto-close' on the slide more and more lately. But it has never gone off till its last use for the CCW qual.

Could it be the reloads I got from the Mesa gun show roughly 2 weeks ago?

But at least the gut hit made it look like another qual. hit

I think I speak for most of SWIC... I want in on that MP5 action the next time you go out!

If the gun is firing on closing, Something is very wrong with it. maybe the firing pin is stuck outside its channel and firing the round as it closes. Could be the reloads you bought too. Thats why any reloader says you shouldnt shoot reloads from someone you dont know or trust. Its very easy to double load a charge and blow up the gun or under load one causing the bullet to lodge in the barrel and the next bullet blowing up the gun.

The auto slide close is fairly common once the gun is broken in. I can make my Glock 22 do it and its how I do my reloads. When the gun was new it was hard to do, but now with several thousand rounds through it, I can do it on command.

The groupings are pretty good though. Obviously you know what you're doing. A bit more practice and your groups will turn into that one ragged hole like the body group has.

I will be getting another m4a3 here in the newar future (I've had 3 so far). My last one was the american spirit arms m4a3 with a 2 stage trigger job, flip up rear battle sights, eotek 552 sight, sure fire picatiny rails, pelican lithium light, front grip. Ended up assploding the carrier when I shot off a hot loaded factory load. It bent the firing pin, was blowing the primers through the hole. Luckly ASA warrentied there guns for life and replaced the parts free of charge. I have tried to find them but guess they moved or went out of business.

I am also thinking about getting an XDm 40 and then the conversions for both 9mm and 357 Sig. (Both made by a company in Tempe I think.)
Not sure if these conversions will work with the sub compact...?

9mm would be easier (+ cheaper) for the woman to handle as she is still very new at shooting.

As for a rifle, I am debating going for a Mauser 98 8mm. Slap a good scope
on that and I should be good for 500+ yds of hunting fun!

Does anyone have experience with the PX4 storm? Its another one I am considering for my CCW.

Since so many of you have talked about the ccw, anyone of you care to explain the process? What you had to or are having to go thru?

I think it's like a 6-8hr class, then you have to shoot at 5 and 10 yards to qualify (I think it's like 5 or 10 rounds each). I'll give you a guy's name and email if you're interested.

As said before, its an 8hr class (down from 16hrs last year).
Depending on where you go, it will be $30 - $100 just for the class.
Once you pass the written (SO simple its funny) you go to a range for the live fire test.

Class is on legal issues, the law - what it means and to prevent getting screwed. You would be shocked how simple it is to F yourself over.

Live fire is as follows:
10rnds @ 5yds (15ft) and 10 rnds at 10yds (30 ft) to center mass on a 14" by 16" target. See page 2 for my ccw target.

I believe the above is double the rounds required, but if you can land more than half at each distance, your going to pass.

Other than that you get printed at the class, fill out your app, get $60 for DPS fees and your golden. It can take 1 -2 months to get it from DPS once you send it in.

I had a group from work go and I arranged it. The cheapest I found was via:
BlackWolf (www.BlackWolfCCW.com).

The instructor, John Hansen, is a current MCSO Deputy and works anti-gang. He is extremely cool and easy to get along with. If you pre-pay for a class (as stated on his website) the class is $30. If you prefer to pay on the class date, in cash, its $40. Either way you want to register on his site. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Benefits to CCW;
-Concealed carry of a firearm, knife (any blade length), or any other 'weapon' on your person so long as you adhere to current laws pertaining to both public and private establishments that limit or prevent carrying a weapon.
-Gun purchases only require you to show your CCW permit. IE: No more FBI background checks.
-Carry concealed in 32(?) states. But you are still responsible for knowing the states laws that you are in or traveling through.

One last word on this huge post;
If you have any misdemeanors or a felony conviction you can't get your CCW. Don't even bother applying as DPS will take the fees and then deny you.
If you have a conviction, (ex: paid a fine) for a domestic case, your F'd. Again, don't apply.

Hope this helps.

That sound kinda high for a price on the class, that's like a $90-100 out the door for the class. I'll have to double check, but the guy I went through for mine was like $75-80 out the door I think.

Also, I don't think a misdomeanors precludes you from getting a CCW permit. I know a domestic and a felony do because you lose your right to own a fire arm if you are convicted of a felony or for domestic violence.

$75-80 out the door? This is for the class and DPS fees?
If so, who did you use!? Granted its only a few bucks cheaper... but its still something.

Thats what I thought.

BlacWolf is 30-40 for the class
Add $60 for DPS and your looking 90-100 total out of pocket for your CCW.

So that should make em cheaper

You guys should do a group ccw class, most places will give you a discount and it's a lot more fun with a bunch of guys.
