Thumbs up Gen. 2 Random Tech cat

I've just put 600 miles on it and it's CEL free thanks to Pony Express' mileliminator. This cat is a new design and I have the first production model. It doesn't use a single part off the old design and the cat is of a new variety. There is no heat sheild to rattle loose, as the cat is now just a bulge in the pipe. The flex joint and gasket-less flange of the old variety have been replaced with solid piping throughout and a conventional flange with a donut gasket bolts it to the mid-pipe. The finish is satin polished stainless and the flanges are all 1/4''. It was difficult to install, though. It required a couple of trips to Random Tech for welding and proper gaskets, plus rewelding of my Stromung mid-pipe flange. Other than that, it bolted right in. I'm sure these problems will be addressed on the later models, though. Besides the minor fabrication, the only other downside is the noise. It's a little too loud to be used on a daily driver, at least with my Stromung with no resonator in the midpipe. It has a really hollow sound chugging around town and when I step on it, it sounds like a straight pipe, only not quite as loud. In first gear at about 3K, it has this wicked burble that sets off car alarms, very cool! Also, it pops louder and more frequently. This new version is much louder than the previous model cat due to the difference in cat design, so I've been told. All in all, it's a good product that I would recommend. I'd really like to thank Airborne Motorsports www.airbornemotorsports.com for having this new version made for me and for all their help on the install.
