Default MSPT Tuned: 2008 WRX (93 Oct, Stock Turbo) - 254 whp / 343 wtq [Dyno Dynamics]

Location: No Limit Motorsport
Ambient Temp: ~40F
Elevation: ---

Car: 2008 Impreza WRX
Tuner: Dave Brown
Dyno Info: Dyno Dynamics
Peak HP at RPM: 254 whp @ 4600 rpm (1.12 CF)
Baseline HP for a stock car: ---
Target Boost: 18 psi tapering to ~11 psi
Target AFR: ---
Fuel: 93 Octance

Engine Modifications

Invidia N1 Race
ERZ Catted Downpipe
AVO Short Ram Intake
Grimmspeed EBCS

The car made more power than I was expecting and made good torque. It pulls very strong all the way until about redline although not really much point to take it there. I spiked to 21.5 psi a couple of times on the way home but im not worried about it. Still on the stock snail (TD04), I will be back soon with new BPV, FMIC, turbo inlet, and NGK 1 step colder plugs to see what it makes. Ultimate plan for this car is 330-350whp VF52 DD. Thanks for looking and feel free to comment on what you think.

Big shout out to Dave Brown and the guys at Metric Subaru for the results

Pics and video up shortly...

NICE!! JUST GOT MINE PROTUNED TODAY ALSO! got 333tq/235whp on 15psi! wish he would've pushed it to 16 lol but I'm happy with the results! I really want to get a bigger top mount on my 08wrx to run more boost! hows the grimmspeed EBCS? How much did it cost you? I just want to settle around 350tq/250whp.

congrats on your numbers! why only 15 psi? The Grimmspeed EBCS is like $113 and I think is definitely worth it.

Don't get too hung up on boost levels of a TD04. Peak boost will affect your torque at the lower midrange of RPMs, but by the time you get to 4k or so, the turbo is just not able to give anything more and is losing boost, rolling off naturally.

On a turbo setup like this, an MBC is really all the boost control you need. You're not 'controlling' boost so much as just setting the peak. You're peaking it and it's almost immediately starting to rolloff due to running out of breath.

because usually they are recommended for larger turbo upgrades if @ all. theyre are plenty of guys w/ 400+ hp setups and stock heat range plugs. there are also guys on here w/ basic stg2 setups like yourself w/ one step colder.. BUT the td04 and or vfXX turbos really wont benefit from it. id talk to dave and see what he recommends in the end though..

The heat range numbers used by spark plug manufacturers are not universal, so a 10 heat range in Champion is not the same as a 10 heat range in NGK or in Autolite. When making the decision to change the heat range of your plugs, it is a wise idea to make changes in 1 heat range increments, checking all your plugs for suitability during your test. Vehicle modifications during the test phase of your plugs is not recommended as this may skew your results.

So really...do I need colder spark plugs? Probably not as in the end it won't make enough difference to be felt. But if you want the bling of saying you have iridium one step colder plugs and you enjoy the work, knock yourself out.

Do I need to consult with my tuner about spark plugs? Yes. Items in your car that can be tuner specific: manual boost controllers, electronic boost controllers, upgraded wastegates, restrictor pills, wastegate helper springs, external wastegates (type/size/brand), spark plug types/brands/gaps, and injector types/brands/sizes. ALWAYS take your tuner's advice on these matters no matter what the internet tells you!

I don't know about pulling strong to redline?

Since your whp starts falling off at 5300-5600rpms.

Sorry to say it.

Just being honest.

man and I thought my numbers were good for being on the stock snail. but we also used two diffrent dynos so my numbers on that dyno could be close to yours. all I know is that my car is a monster compaired to the day I drove it home. just with intake and exhaust. 236/316. cant wait to get home from this deployment and toss in my LGT turbo and see what we can do.

its a dyno dynamics plus with the cf theres no doubt its a lil high reading but damn its so much faster than when i picked it up from the dealer... i honestly dont know what i want to do turbo wise, its between vf52, 18g-xt, 68hta, or even a 19t upgrade...

the dynos not super high reading. I saw a couple fp green setups (350-370whp) and an hta green at 400. the high reading dynos you see are the 360whp vf39's
