Default Is my rear diff shot?

Hi,

I began having an issue about 5 days ago, when I fully depress the clutch, pop it into first at a standstill, I hear a thud coming from the rear of the car, mind you the clutch pedal is still depressed. It happens randomly and in order to replicate the sound I would have do disengage, engage the clutch and stick it into the first. My thought on this was either the differential bushing, like a perrins lockout bushing set would be able to cure it, or maybe the my diff is just shot, and is on it's way out. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The problem that I am experiencing is more of a thud than a clunk though. 2 of my buddies who have STIs, had the clunk once in the 1st gear, and as soon as they let go off the clutch and press the gas pedal you could've heard the clunk. My problem is that I hear a thud with the clutch pushed in when I stick it in the first gear. I am just not sure if the diff bushings will cure the problem, opposite to just buying a used R160 for like $150 bucks. Also do all 02-07wrx come with R160 diffs/ readily interchangeable?

What part of the clunk makes you think its a shot lsd? Have you put the car up on jackstands and looked around for some loose parts yet?

Yea, no loose parts. Still trying to figure out if it might be something else before getting the diff lockout bushing kit.
