ok, i must know where you got the remote start installed on a manual. i've been wanting to do that for quite some time but i can't find a place that will do it. what type of safeties were installed with that feature?

unfortunetly, you won't be able to have it installed anywhere. It is against the law on a manual. I work at an electronics store and have friends that are installers. The clifford avant gaurd 4 is the only alarm made for manuals. It is their most expensive alarm. What you could do is have someone install The whole alarm and then wire up remote start yourself. OR, go to your favorite electronics store and offer an under the table cash deal. It has to be quiet because this is a big NO NO. None of the major chains will install it. Maybe specialty Mom & Pop shops will.
When the car is parked and in nuetral, you hit a button on your remote. you then take out your keys and exit. The car is still running at this point. you then arm the car and it kills the ignition and turns everything off. Mine even rolls up my windows for me. The alarm also has a turbo timer. While the car is in nuetral, I hit a different key and it sets the timer. When I hit Arm, the car keeps running and it locks the doors. The car is still protected. I greatly recomend this alarm. I had one on my last car as well. Self powered siren, anti-carjack,dual zone radar, shock, tilt sensor. And it is all programable by laptop.
If you however setup the remote start, disarm, accidentally put it in gear, and them hit start, it will jump. Mine did during the install. maybe too many cooks in the kitchen during the install.
The alarm is about $450-$500 and some customers pay up to $1000 for the full install. Even with my discount, It was a $400 install.

Just safety reasons. Someone leaves their car in gear and hits the remote start and runs the car into something or someone, not good. People sue the person and the deep pocketed manufacturer of the remote starter. Or the e-brake is on and the car doesn't go anywhere but you blow your starter. They do have things that are suppose to prevent this. I.E. A nuetral safety switch wire, wired to the e-brake so it won't start unless the e-brake is on. A little unit like the dingers of a store door. So when you break a field of light it won't start. You place it by your shifter and if the shifter is in gear it breaks the beam of light and the car won't start. But the problem with these is; positioning them correctly, also vibrations will shift the lights, and most people I talked to that have done them say that the thing is broken more often than not. I hope that was what your question was about.

Where did you get your tint done? It looks nice in the picture.

I had dark tint on my RS, but they did the back window in 3 pieces. I want to get my WRX done with somewhere around 15%, so any input on good experiences would be appreciated.

Default Volks and tint

I had that tint done at Ray Reductions in Longmont before I sold the car to dgp. They are perfectionists over there and do a great job. It is the 'Quantum 14%'. My only complaint is that is looks a little odd under the right flourecent lights...noticeable sometimes cruising at night or at the gas station.

The Volks were ordered from Dan at Godspeed.

godspeed.hack.net

He's a great vendor. They took a LONG time (3 months) to come from Japan though. Nobody seems to be able to get stuff quickly from Mackin, especially if it isn't already stocked here in the states.

The car is lookin good! He also added a neeet HKS carbon fiber/titanium exhaust I think since the pics were taken (the links were broken for me just now.)

Cheers!

If you don't mind me asking how much did the tint job cost, and how long did it take them to do it ? Also, what do you mean by it looks a little odd under certain conditions ? Streaks or just a different color ?

I think it was 200 bux including a windshield strip. You'll have to pay cash for anything darker than 30%. Plan to give them your car for a full day, and call ahead because they do quite a bit of business for local dealerships. I was referred there from the folks at Valley Nissan/Subaru.

Under most flourecent lights the Qantum film will appear to have an almost iradescent (sp?) rainbow effect when viewed from the outside. Things look fine from the inside though. This happens only with the Quantum tint I assume, which is slightly reflective. It's made up of many tiny metallic particles in the film which is what I think causes the odd color reflections. It's guaranteed to never fade though.

Maybe dgp has comments on whether it's bothered him at all.

He also has a regular film that is non-reflective and also guaranteed. I'd recommend that one personally. At the time I just liked the look of the slight mirror-effect but in hindsight I'd go with the good old fashioned black.

Their customer service was great, he was very quick to repair the only blemish that ever popped up, and it was mostly due to the fact that I was cleaning the inside back window and rubbed a little hard on the seam (which I didn't even notice was there in the first place.) I pulled up a tiny corner of the tint and they fixed it right up for free.

Cheers!

To me, it looks like it was the botom of the roll and it had creases or something, warped maybe. Maybe it is just the coating but it does look a little rainbowish at gas stations. Under sunlight, It is the best tint I've ever had. It feels like its not that dark from the inside and that people can see you, but from the outside it is dark with a slight mirror finish. I love the tint and would recomend it to anyone.
Ray reductions has also done one of my previous cars and that lokked great too. I did have an issue with "the matrix" on the top of my rear windshield. That was an acura though.

What is the darkest tint you would recommend? I do a lot of night driving, but had a car before my WRX that was tinted and loved it. Also whats the max legal tint in the state, and most of the others ?
