Default Modding a Lease Car

So does anyone have a lease car and modded it?

Have you had any problems w/ warranty and/or servicing the vehicle at dealerships?

Planning on leasing a new '10 WRX, and I would like to put a few mods on it.. but don't know how it will fare with SOA or subaru dealerships..

Is this a good or bad idea?

Whatever you do, don't mess with the ECU. I'm sure simple bolt ons will be fine as long as you return everything to stock.

Just get a loan and buy it. At least your money is going into something and not just out the window. I hate leases, I dont feel like I own the car. Just renting it for an extended time. Id say buy it, thats what I did. That way you can mod to your hearts delight and not have to worry.

I've had a horrible experience with purchasing cars and lemons in the past.. and I'm a bit unsure about purchasing another car now. This will be my first subie, so i'm not sure how often these cars lemon up.

After a thorough search, the '10 models seem safe from the rod bearing issue, am i correct? What's the chances of getting a subaru lemon?

Yeah... I just got rid of my lemon 07 A4. Had to replace the fuel pump many times among other issues.

I also had an 02 C230 that had multiple electrical problems and that got extremely annoying.

From long term reliability reports (and personal experience) I'd say it's very unlikely to get a lemon Subie...

Basic idea with modding a leased vehicle is this...
Do whatever you want so long as the Vehicle can be returned back to stock form BEFORE they pick it up at the end of the lease OR ... plan on buying it at the end if you can't return it to stock.

I plan on leasing a '10 WRX premium or STI and modding it... at least the following; brake pads, tires/wheels, suspension, ecu, intake, header, exhuast, tint.
All stuff you can remove - it's just a matter of how much work you want to do.

also find a mod-friendly dealership... my dealership sells SPT performance parts and are guaranteed to not void warranty

with most manufacturers, if you use their performance parts you wont have a issue. I work for toyota and if anyone buys a TRD part it is still covered under waranty as well as the part. for example a TRD supercharger will not void the factory waranty as long as you dont change the pulley, or if you put the stock back on and re-paint the lock bolt...

This is one of the silliest questions I've ever heard.

More on topic. My Impreza is leased and is up this June, I've modded it, but have always planned to buy it out. I only leased because it was the most affordable option at the time.

Find a mod friendly dealer, save all the original parts and put them back on when the lease is up and sell the mod parts.

Its all about the dealer...I have leased all 5 of my Subarus and I have modded the last three. They could not be any nicer about anything I did to my cars.
I destroyed 3rd and fourth gear in my 05 sti....covered--and heavily modified.
I blew the engine in my 09 forester xt....covered - had a full exhaust.

They didnt have to cover ANYTHING because the dealer could have pointed to various mods and say sorry....too bad. But they never gave me any grief whatsoever....cant say enough good things about them.

so i finally leased a new 2010 WRX. I seriously hate how I have to limit my miles every month or else I'll get raped up the ass for 15 cents a mile.

I'm definitely modding it though.

Not like mods add anything to your cars value if you own it anyway.

modding a leased car that is just asking for trouble...its not worth the bolt on's unless you are going to buy the same car that you leased...
