Default Need help: supporting AP v1 w/o a serial port?

Hey guys,

I need a bit of help. My old laptop finally bit the dust, and my new laptop doesn't have a serial port. Can I use a USB to serial port adaptor?

Also, the link to the newest version of the AP v1 software on Cobb's site seems to be down. Anyone have someplace else to source it from?

no one knows?

EDIT: I bought a serial port to USB adapter this afternoon. The computer won't recognize any of the ports as a communicating with the accesport.

Do you have a null modem cable and not a serial cable? That could be the reason right there.

HA! Travis I think you're a genious. It's the only cable I have since the AP came with the car. It's a kind of cream/off white colored cable with 'NM' stamped on the connectors.

Ok, you want the null modem cable, that was what I was getting at, sorry. Go into your control panel and see what port the serial to USB cable is assigned to, then in your software, tell it to look at that port.

We don't really support these units anymore so I don't have any software updates etc to send your way. These older units can be difficult to work with on new operating systems.

EDIT: Got it connected. Had to uninstall everything then reinstall it all again for some reason.

Thank you for all the help Travis.

Should this continue to fail to connect at some point later on, just re-install the drivers for the adapter. This was a problem that I ran across a number of years ago.

Thanks man, I'll keep that in mind. I had to remove and reinstall the drivers and the AP software to get it to finally connect.
