Default Never steal from someone in the Subaru community.

Well as some of you may remember, I had some items stolen out of my car in April of 2009. Access Port (still married), digital camera and some other misc goodies, total of about $1,000. I filed a police report and, of course, nothing ever came of it.

.....until today!

RJ, being the creepster KSL stalker he is, came across an AP for $180 today. Of course we all know that is ridiculously cheap, so he calls the dude and asks some questions about it (where he got it/what he drives/etc/etc). The dude knows nothing about it, just what he read and copy/paste off the COBB website. "A friend gave it to him", he doesn't even have a Subaru. So, RJ calls Chris at COBB, and sure enough, the serial number (that the guy took a pic of and posted-jackass) matched my stolen AP. I get a call from RJ explaining all the above so I take over and start looking into it.

I call my uncle who is a sergeant with the SLC police department to ask his advice on what to do. He made some calls and shortly after I got a call from a detective who was assigned to my case originally. I give him all of the info and he says he will get back to me. About an hour later he calls back after finding the guys address/info. Turns out he is recently out of jail for meth abuse and is on probation still, and is well known by the police. Unfortunately he can't get a hold of the guy or his proby officer yet, he advised that I meet the guy selling it and just buy it so it doesn't walk away again and assured that I would later be reimbursed. Well I wasn't to keen on that idea so I made some more calls and ended up with a Kearns (where the house is) sherrif who would go to the house for me and see what was up. The guy tells the sherrif that he bought it at a garage sale (diff story than to RJ) and then realized it wouldn't work on his car (wtf?).

The serial number did confirm to match with mine, so the sherrif still seized the AP from the dude, and I GET IT BACK! so after about 10 months I'm getting it back, can't believe it. Unfortunately, there is no way to prove this guy stole it or knew he was in possession of stolen property. If they could (only way would be to get him to admit knowing it was stolen) then he could be charged with a Class B Misdemeanor.. too bad

Either way, I'm still stoked that it has been found. BIG thank you to RJ again!

I saw it too. I was wondering why he was asking $180 for it when he could easily get $500. Nice work getting it back!

ok RJ put your Sherlock skills to the test - here is my 04 STI.
The wheels were jacked at Pinnacle Highland Apartments about 4 years ago -

If you can find the wheels you can keep them!
The idiots probably thought they walked away with some gold BBS, instead they got my gold Rota Revs
and heavily used snow tires.
