I read in an article on Car & Driver's website a while back that you should wait at least three months after your car was built to start waxing. You can find your build date inside the driver's door.

You can and should wax immediately. Your dealer did as part of the prep. Probably with some spray on crap that only will last a week. New paint is baked at the factory their is no need to wait.

Default Wait

If it's not too late, you should wait before waxing. A few months is about right.

There appears to be a few differences of opinion here. I haven't done anything to the car yet. I will have had it for a week tomorrow. I just intend on cleaning (getting all the spots the dealer didn't). Im guessing that i will continue to get different answers but is there any reason why i shouldn't wax it for a couple of months or is there any reason i should?

The only time you need to wait on waxing or polishing is when something was recently painted. The general rule of thumb in that case it 3-4 weeks depending on the weather there. Since I'm in Hawaii, 3 weeks is about right, for colder and wtter climates, 4 weeks is pretty safe.

Since a car is painted from the factory and the amount of time it takes to get here and get all it's paperwork for US roads, you can wax it almost immediatly and is probably a good idea to do so.

I will bet my car that your dealer already waxed it. You can wax it. Call your dealer if you don't believe me.

Shinny=Good. I wouldn't wax it right away, wait 3 months or so, or until it gets dirty. Don't bother doing it every weekend either, get out and enjoy the car a bit. If you use better wax, you'll get a better look out of the car. I love Zaino on my car, simply amazing, it's like a mirror.

Hey remember that waxing is for protection, polish brings out the shine and deepness of a color. But there are combo products taht polish and wax in one step, but that is for sissy's

Yeah the 3 month thing is passed. I don't really know what wax to use but im sure if i ask i'll get some comment about the search function so i'll take a look around. I used Zymol on my eclipse and it worked really well on the white paint. Now if i could just afford a buffer i would be in heaven. Oh and im not gonna waxit once a week, it was either once a month or once every 2 with the eclipse. I enjoy the car, i just want it to look good for as long as i have it and see this car being in my future for a long long time. Thanks for the help guys.
