Default AccessPORT User Survey 2010

At COBB Tuning we are always working to make our products perform better. We do this by improving ease of use with intuitive menus and features or increasing the performance and enjoyment of their cars with our Off the Shelf maps.

To that end, we want to know what you like about the AccessPORT. What features can you not live without? What features don’t ever get used? What would you change about the AccessPORT to make it better? This is your chance to sound off. Your input will help determine the course of future AccessPORT development.

Please respond to the survey below. Feel free to add in your own comments and criticisms. Would you like to see a feature or function added to the AccessPORT? Let us know. Now is your opportunity to tell COBB Tuning how we can make the AccessPORT better than ever.

Thank you for participating in our survey. As a company of automotive enthusiasts, we endeavor to build products that other automotive enthusiasts will appreciate and enjoy. We will be monitoring and participating in this thread so speak your mind. You can respond here or send us your responses to AccessPORT.Development@cobbtuning.com

AccessTuner Race. Real-time map switching.

Rarely, I primarily use the laptop.

Primarily data logging.

6. What are the AccessPORT features you cannot live without?

AccessTuner Race.

7. If your AccessPORT only had 5 features, what would they be in order of importance?

End-user tuning, real-time map adjustment, performance abilities... then whatever else.

8. What features would you add to the AccessPORT?

SD support for the end-user. This is a must! Big builds and self-tuners would love to have this option.

9. What is your opinion of COBB Tuning’s Off the Shelf (OTS) Maps? Do you use them? If so why? If not why not?

I am currently running the Stage Two map. It seems to work well enough. More time should have been spent on the throttle maps.

Valet and economy.

No one else has comments? Remember, the information we gather here will go directly to the team working on upgrades and revisions to the AccessPORT, tell them what you think!

1) FAVORITE FEATURE: Map switching, checking codes.

2) WHAT FEATURES USED ON REGULAR BASIS?: Map switching, checking codes.

3) HOW OFTEN DO OYU CHANGE MAPS?: ~5 times a month.

4) HOW OFTEN DO YOU DATALOG?: Never i have an apple or i would.

5) WHAT FEATURES DONT YOU USE?: Datalogging (although i would if it was apple compatible (hint hint ) performance stats (not accurate at all!) Launch control/FFS (because it has problems from what ive read and needs to be fixed.

6) WHAT CANT YOU LIVE WITHOUT?: Map switching, ease of use.

7) 5 FEATURES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE: Map switching, datalogging, reading codes, NEEDS TO GET SPEED DENSITY TUNING!!!

8) WHAT FEATURES WOULD YOU ADD?: Speed Density capable, fix the launch/FFS controls to work correctly, fix performance accuracy.

9) OPINION OF OTS MAPS?: No comment, never used one.

10) WHAT MAPS USED MOST OFTEN, NEVER USED, MAPS ADDED?: Pump gas map mostly, pump gas agressive for racing, 110oct for the weekends when i feel like having fun, and c16 for the track. Never use valet although good idea and like the feature. SPEED DENSITY TUNING NEEDS TO BE A CAPABILITY!! As well as fixing the LC/FFS problems, those are the two most important things, FFS/LC being the first since its out and needs the be perfected.

I don't have an accessport (waiting for the 2010 WRX version) but one feature that I would love to have is a rev limiter. Make it so that my car doesn't just cut off altogether if I redline but instead bounces off a preset limit.

1. What is your favorite AccessPORT Feature?

Live data monitoring

2. What AccessPORT features do you use on a regular basis?

Live data monitoring, I literally use it every day I drive my car!!!

3. How often do you use your AccessPORT to change maps?

Only when I put something new on my car (currently using a Clark Turner map)

4. How often do you use your AccessPORT to data log?

When I'm getting a new map tweaked.

5. What are some of the features you never use on your AccessPORT?

OTS maps.

6. What are the AccessPORT features you cannot live without?

The live data monitoring and the easy data logging/map switching!!

7. If your AccessPORT only had 5 features, what would they be in order of importance?

Live data, data logging, easy/quick map switching, CEL reading/clearing, dyno(<---contrary to popular belief seems to be quite accurate when used correctly)

8. What features would you add to the AccessPORT?

Auto on/off, auto on/off, and auto on/off!!

9. What is your opinion of COBB Tuning’s Off the Shelf (OTS) Maps? Do you use them? If so why? If not why not?

I ran an OTS Stage 2 map for ~1 year before getting some things I couldn't use with the map (565cc inj+ boost solenoid), I was pretty happy with it.

10. What maps do you use most often? What maps do you never use? Which maps would you add?

I'm just using my custom map for now..... maps to accomadate aftermarket boost solenoids with commonly used applications (such as a Grimmspeed or GM solenoid with a VF39 map) would be good if possible, as would a VF43 map.

COBB Tuning
AccessPORT Development Team

1. What is your favorite AccessPORT Feature? realtime tuning and realtime flash (otherwise i'd use OS) with ATR.

2. What AccessPORT features do you use on a regular basis? realtime flash, ATR.

3. How often do you use your AccessPORT to change maps? while tuning, once or twice a week.

4. How often do you use your AccessPORT to data log? never, i log to my PC via ATR.

5. What are some of the features you never use on your AccessPORT? gauges

6. What are the AccessPORT features you cannot live without? realtime flash and tuning (otherwise i'd use OS)

7. If your AccessPORT only had 5 features, what would they be in order of importance?

a. realtime flash
b. ATR
.. not sure what the other 3 should be

8. What features would you add to the AccessPORT? more tables, at least as many as OS, realtime tune everything, more complete and ECU specific documentation (this is one of my biggest complaints). better support for those that self-tune (probably as an additional option with a cost, not unlike software maintenance plans).

9. What is your opinion of COBB Tuning’s Off the Shelf (OTS) Maps? Do you use them? If so why? If not why not? I used them to start before i started tuning myself with e85.

10. What maps do you use most often? What maps do you never use? Which maps would you add? stage I before i added stuff, then stage II after i added stuff then i started off on my own after i went with e316g turbo and e85. never use maps that werent specific for my car/fuel (like the 91 oct maps). i would add additional maps for e85 and popular turbo combinations.
and you know what else i would recommend? some sort of ODBII dongle that didnt poke out underneath the dash, just waiting for someone to knee it and break it off or perhaps damage the ODBII port. maybe even something to reroute the ODBII port somehow to the side of the dash..

you can do that yourself very easily. Just pop out the clip holding the OBDII port and pull it up into the dash cover. I use double sided tape to secure the dongle to one of the modules on the steering column.

I have only had my AP for a few days but will answer to thest of my abilities and update later......

1. What is your favorite AccessPORT Feature?
CEL reading/clearing

2. What AccessPORT features do you use on a regular basis?
CEL read (when needed), real time maps

3. How often do you use your AccessPORT to change maps?
Not much yet, only stage 1 and can only get 91oct here going to stage 2 when it warms up then we'll see. Seem to get same gas mileage with stage 1 and economy

4. How often do you use your AccessPORT to data log?
Plan to do this soon. (I need to change my A/F sensor first)

5. What are some of the features you never use on your AccessPORT?
shift light

6. What are the AccessPORT features you cannot live without?
CEL read, 1/4 mile 0-60,

7. If your AccessPORT only had 5 features, what would they be in order of importance?
Base maps, Real time maps, CEL read/clear, 1/4 mile, data loging

8. What features would you add to the AccessPORT?
Launch control for 04 WRX. (AP-SUB-001) EGT reading (i know stock EGT is not reliable but would be ok for reference only),

9. What is your opinion of COBB Tuning’s Off the Shelf (OTS) Maps? Do you use them? If so why? If not why not?
So far so good. Yes I use them. I see no need to spend money on pro-tune untill my mods surpass the scope of the OTS maps.

10. What maps do you use most often? What maps do you never use? Which maps would you add?
Stage 1 91 oct sson to be stage 2 91 oct. never use economy or 93 oct maps as i can not get 93 oct. I would add a map for catless up, STI TMIC, ported ex. man. or header. These seem to be common mods. And maybe something for TGV delete.

2. What AccessPORT features do you use on a regular basis?

Logging

3. How often do you use your AccessPORT to change maps?

Not very often, just when I see a problem in the map or if I make a change to the car.

4. How often do you use your AccessPORT to data log?

All the time.

5. What are some of the features you never use on your AccessPORT?

I really use most of them.

6. What are the AccessPORT features you cannot live without?

I really use all of them.

7. If your AccessPORT only had 5 features, what would they be in order of importance?

All the current ones are, I wish the launch control would work a bit better with all maps.

8. What features would you add to the AccessPORT?

Unsure

9. What is your opinion of COBB Tuning’s Off the Shelf (OTS) Maps? Do you use them? If so why? If not why not?

I really only use my protune map all the time.

8. What features would you add to the AccessPORT?

1. To power down when you shut the car off like my Dashawk does.

2. Change the way that the dongle hangs out of the OBD connector, needs to have a hard mount with easy release of USB cord and angled 90 degrees and not stick out so far. Don't make the OBD connection so delicate and easily breakable.

I would use mine more if it just had those features. My AP just sits in the box next to my computer since I installed it. So much easier to mount the Dashawk because it's square and comes with mounting hardware. You can also change colors of screen to match your dash.

8. Knock activity in Live data for 05' wrx, and also in Data Logging. I think this is one of the most important things to keep an eye on.

Launch control for 05' wrx, but I know your already working on it.

the simplicity and ease of use is great. the rev warning/ shift light is a good feature. i like using it as a boost pressure guage and it still flashes for the shift light thats great. it should have some more off the shelf maps. it should also not be as finicky ie: when its been sitting in the car and its hot it seems to not wanna start right up, i usually take it out and into house to get it to room temp. one thing it DEFINATELY should have is an auto power on/off function, or at least an on/off switch. other than that its a pretty good little device. i havent had it very long but these are the things i like and dislike.

Only had mine for two months...

The unit and all connectors are too fragile. I have the Accessport 2.0 with the 2.0 B Cable.

Improve the quality of the case, the connectors, and the cable itself. If you would like to view a quality piece of equipment to build "towards" look at the Krell Audiophile Home Audio Components.

Allow Accessport 2.0 to push it's display through a laptop. Perhaps in multiple windows.

Allow Accessport display to pass through a laptop to a standard 7" LCD display.

Allow logging of 10 sessions of performance measurement (10 "0-60", 10 "1/4 Miles Tests", 10 dyno pulls)

Pass through performance of the Accessport directly into a laptop.

Lot of other potential improvements. Overall a good piece of hardware.
