Subaru Road Racing Team Debuts New Impreza(R) WRX(R) STI(R) at Daytona Raceway

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc. opened the 2010 road race season today with a strong 15th place finish out of 41 entries in the Grand Sport class of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series at the Daytona Raceway. The Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT) is fielding two Impreza WRX STI racecars in the series this year. SRRT campaigned a single Subaru Legacy 2.5GT spec.B in the series' Street Tuner class in 2009, taking second in both the Drivers' and Team Championships, along with 3rd in the Manufacturer chase.

Four-time Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Touring 1 Northeast Champion Andrew Aquilante, from Chester Springs, Penn., will lead the Subaru road racing effort for 2010. He is in his third year driving for Subaru. Aquilante achieved nine top-ten finishes to complete 2009 tied for 2nd in the Drivers' Championship. Bret Spaude of St. Petersburg, Fla. has joined SRRT as Aquilante's teammate. Spaude finished 2009 seventh in points in the Grand Am ST class and is a two-time SCCA Regional title holder. Each driver is seeking his first Grand-Am win.
The 2010 Impreza WRX STI is the ultimate-performance Subaru, powered by a 305-horsepower turbocharged/intercooled Boxer engine and featuring driver-selectable powertrain and dynamic handling controls for world-class sports car performance. The WRX STI is built exclusively as an aggressively styled, wide-fender 5-door model with a design strongly influenced by the brand's competition heritage. Its drivetrain, which is exclusive to the WRX STI model, combines a six-speed manual transmission with the advanced Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive. High-performance chassis elements include aluminum suspension components and a Brembo® Performance Brake System.
Since 2009, the SRRT has been managed by SRRT Phoenix, LLC, through Joe Aquilante from Phoenix Performance, Inc. in Phoenixville, Penn. The senior Aquilante is a multiple race and title-winner in various series across different classes.

It's a factory color... unlike the ESX stuff.

With Subaru out of the WRC.. don't expect the blue on gold livery to survive.

I think they should live on. Those colors mean alot to subaru enthusiasts. To see them just die off is a shame. Although it would be odd to see them on a subaru and not have it be filthy dirty.

as long as cherry blossom red (pink) lives on, red is not a good idea for the STI. Not to sound too matchy matchy but come on, red and pink just doesn't work.

If you count them all up, there are at least 18 STI badges on the GR. One of them is pink (illuminated in the gauge cluster), the others are more red.

The '04 STI was the only USDM with truely pink badges.

I was at the race and it was great hearing the boxer rumble in GS. They need just a tad more power. The would easily catch the V8 mustangs and camaro's in the corners only to be walked away from on the banking.

Regardless, it was a strong finish and I'm looking forward to seeing them again at VIR.

Subaru's colors might be Blue and Silver (no more gold) but don't tell me that they can't rock red!

amen brother. I do not care, the fact is Subaru is helping a great driver who has earned the support of the factory by showing what he can do in the Legacy. Now he has the proper equipment to take on the rest of the field. It will probably take a season or two to get the car just right, but He has the skills to really take it to the competition.

The only problem I have with the red was that it was hard to tell the red Sti from the red Speed3's at a distance. Picking out WRB is never a problem.

Told everyone locally that I had just put a few stickers on my car

I'd personally hate to see the blue/gold thing die off, completely. Yes they're out of WRC (hopefully not forever, but...we'll see), but because of their racing efforts, a lot of marques have their traditional colors. It's always good to see a WRB Subaru!
