Default Amp/sub drains batteryso

i purchased a Rockford Fosgate amp and their punch 12 inch sub. Its around <150 rms everything worked fine until one day my car wouldn't start at the gas station. Someone attempted to jump me and nothing, fortunately i was next to O'reileys and bought a new battery because mine had a crack in it. The power wire was not plugged in when i started my car with the new battery and she started right away. I then hooked up my power wire and my car wouldn't start, un plugged it and started up again. Checked wires and ground everything is fine. Any ideas????

More must be clarified..

A short as stated above is a possibility, but not a probability as a direct short of any "large" wire would result in melted wires and/or fire...

Something more has to be happening... is the amp power wire fused near the battery?

If not, that's a problem.. if it is and the amp is messed up, it should only be able to pull the fuse rating through the wire... no fuse, no telling how much current could be pulled in a short...1-2-3-4oo amps?

Again, That spells FIRE..

Your old battery had a CRACK in it? as in it drained all of the acid everywhere?

Something is amiss for sure..

Check your power wire. Follow it. It is probably being pinched somewhere causing the power to be grounded out causing a SHORT.

I really hope the power wire hasnt been run through the fender like some of the self installs ive seen come through my shop for a fix. this always spells disaster.

if the jump cables were reversed and the amp was connected and unfused, it could have shorted the amp internally.

As the 2 posts above mine stated: check the wiring from battery every inch all the way to the back.

I appreciate all the feedback. The fuse is 5 to 6 inches away from the battery. I wired the power through a hole in the fire wall. I'll follow the power wire and see if its pinched. Thanks a lot

Its not a short, don't bother tracing the wire. If you had a short, it first of all wouldn't have caused this condition, and second, it would have popped your fuse in about .1 seconds. If you didn't have a fuse, there would have been massive smoke/fire/sparks like aaron mentioned...

I suspect the problem is in your battery terminals. Post of pic of them.
