Default Recommend a Vacation Spot.

I get to have my first vacation in nearly a year in mid march. What do you guyz recommend for a solo trip? I'd be open for most any location. Money isn't an issue. I'm rolling solo and I'd like to have either a tropical-esque place where I can do jack **** interspersed with outdoor activities. Or perhaps a big city somewhere. Possibly Tokyo? I think I'm going to wait last minute to buy tickets and splurge on a hotel.

If I could do anything right now, I'd go hunt jumbo wild boars some place with an automatic weapon or head up to Alaska for some top-notch fishing.

Kauai or Lanai if you really want to get away from it all. Maui for scenery. Oahu if you want the combination of the big city/tropical getaway. Big Island if you're into lava and isht.

There is nothing meh about that resort. And that's where we go. We don't hang out on the streets with the locals, so Dutch/French doesn't matter when you're at a nice resort.

Well, I've never been to that particular resort... but did you leave it? The locals are on the French side are all bitter scum. As least the Dutch side acknowledges that they subside on tourism, and thus treat the tourists like human beings.

EDIT: Nevermind, gotcha. To each his own... I'd get cabin fever staying at a resort for any length of time, don't care how nice it is.

No, we don't leave the resort typically.

I've been to both sides and I prefer the Dutch when we're exploring. But, when we go to the beach, we go to-the-beach. We hit the sand in the AM and stay out all day. We're beach people, not exploring/shopping people when on holiday. We want beach, food, drinks and service.

Oh, and other great option is Costa Rica. We really enjoyed that, too. Gorgeous beaches, friendly locals and tons of outdoorsy stuff to do!

We stayed here:

Newport, RI

Theres a bar every other door on the cobblestone streets that are soaked with the history of this grand nation.

Every door between the bars and restaurants reads 'Ralph Lauren' and 'Louis Vitton'....they just have one of everything on the shelf and you have to ask them to go in the back to get your size.

There are fishing and sightseeing and whalewatching charters for under $20.

No matter where you go you are just steps from Narragansette bay and the Atlantic.

Hob Nob with the rich and famous... I saw Ted Turner there about a week ago.

Newport is like another world. Go see the mansions like the Breakers and the Astors Beechwood and then hit up the bluffs.

Do some research, you won't be dissapointed.

"I might even buy you a beer!"
