Default Noob question

Okay I am really new with this whole engine managment stuff so please be easy on me. I want to know is tunning the same thing as getting a chip? I have a intake and catback exhaust on my 2008 wrx right now, and Im wanting to get a downpipe but I was told I have to get a chip to do so.

No.

Back in the day or currently for older hondas, dsms, some domestics you have to chip it. AKA solder in an Eprom chip and tune the car. that eprom held the tune.

On subies, evo and various other cars you just need to flash a map the what amounts to be a factory eprom chip in the ecu. Too easy.

Check out the Cobb AP, or seeing as your in AZ not sure how far you are from Cam ( camtuning.com) he could set you up with Opensource tune. if not shoot me a pm and i can get you going with someone else in your local area or help you out with an E-tune.

Wha is the differnce of just getting a accesport,a and getting a opensource tune? I called some guy and he said to opensource tune my care would be 400 dollars. thats almost the same amout as the accesport. also with opensource tune if I do changes down the road to my car will I have to go back and pay another 400 to have it retuned?

also That place is located in new mexico do you know of any place more in the phoenix, scottsdale, or peoria area?

I really dont know anyone close Maybe clark tuner he does email maps and i think he is in AZ . Cam has tuned a few of my personal customers cars when they were stationed out in az and NM and has done a great job.
