Seems like everyone else is doing a 2010 thread, so we figured we would as well.
Many of you are familiar with our car from last year. The car was very successful last year and allowed us to win the Redline Time Attack AWD Street Class title as well as 1st in class and 4th overall at the One Lap of America. For this year we are going to build upon the success of the setup by refining the aero, building a new engine to make more power, increasing the safety and fixing the mess (more on this). One of the events we did last year was the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Some of you may have seen this picture that was featured in a Japanese magazine which has become the focus for our ad campaign for this year. A day later and into the race and we suffered a fire that took out half the engine wiring harness and caused all kinds of other issues. The race was a great learning experience for us and will prove to make the car even faster and more reliable going forward. Couple pics of the damage. Basically, everything in the top right corner of the engine bay was toasted. We got lucky that there wasn't more damage to surrounding components. Nice hot spot on the hood. ![]() Fire damage seen from the inside!

We first set off to fix the fire damage. Got the engine out of the way and started to tear into cleaning. A good pressure wash clean up most of the soot pretty well. We sanded and painted the area and it actually came out pretty well. We picked up a new wiring harness and installed it. Thought making our own since the car will be on a stand alone EMS this year, but didn't want to mess with it. Maybe next year.
While the engine was out we decided to run new fuel lines. We will be running a 3582 this year in place of the 3071 and wanted to make sure we could supply plenty of fuel to the engine. We ran new hardlines from the fuel cell all the way out to the engine bay. Terminating fittings for the engine bay. Bulkhead fittings. These are right next to the brake booster on the inside of the car. Also while the dash was out we decided to get rid of the giant blower motor and box. We wanted to save the weight if possible, but still need the fan system and more importantly heat for what we do with the car. Our solution was to take some brake duct fans and put them blowing into the box where the heater core sits. We pulled the resistor pack off the stock blower motor and wired the fans such that the stock blower switch operates them. They blow differently on all four speeds and have about the same amount of airflow as the stock blower motor. We routed ducting to the normal air inlet position so that it is always pulling in fresh air. Last edited by Turn in Concepts; 02-08-2010 at 04:27 PM. |

For braking this year we are changing from the wilwoods we had to Stoptech ST40's.
Wheels are going to be 18x10 Rota DPT's from Wheeldude.com. We are going to be running 275 35 18 RA1's most likely. Aside from that, we still have to figure out a new fuel cell. After this one got bent we need replacement. We also need to figure out a new seat as our seats were stolen at the last race. Hope to have more updates soon. Seats were out of the car. One of the drivers for the 25 hours race didn't want our seat in the car so it go switched. The seat was with the rest of our stuff on a trailer and was stolen. Nothing else was, just the two seats we had.

You guys have a welder? I think welding the plates to the body at the bulkheads on the fuel lines would be more secure then sheet metal screws, maybe nows the time to put them inside the cage at the same time. With the wide selection of Wilwoods what made you guys switch to ST40's? Looks like alot of changes for 2010 season good luck with the rebuild you guys seem to have a good start on things.

Have you thought about flocking the dash since its out of the car? It cuts down on glare on the windshield big time and it only takes the afternoon if you get the DIY kit.

That's actually a really good idea. We've talked about suede or alcantara wrapping it, but we never got past the talking about it stage.

. Real genuine alcantara is very expensive and not really worth it for a race car IMO. I found the easiest, most cost effective way to do it is just by flocking the dash with fibers. I did this in my spec miata race car and had fantastic results. I am thinking about offering a service to do dashboards locally here in California because I have had so many people comment on how great/functional it is. Definitely do it if you have the dash out... |

Where did you get those hood vents? Were you running a TMIC last year?
