Default BlueConnect now available on Impreza and Forester

Impreza and Forester optional hands free cell phone bluetooth 'BlueConnect' now available. Installs in center dash under the heater controls. Not available on all models or with Navigation.

Found this tidbit over at Cars 101.

Bluetooth is already available for the Nav equipped cars.

My parents have Lexus' both have bluetooth and I would really love to have it myself. I think it could go along way to reducing cell phone related traffic accidents....well for some people that is.

I was able to add BlueTooth to my '05 Legacy GT with a Parrot system and my stock stereo no problems for about < $500 installed. Now I'm able to listen to all the music on my iPhone including Pandora and downloaded Podcasts. Also there is seamless transition when calls come in. It even has voice recognition to make phone calls.

Nice to have but it still doesn't solve the problem of texting while driving. Ppl are getting way from voice and moving to texted (data) so solution is good but late. I would figure car makers would hurry and make this a standard option since it immediately improves safety.

So which is it? Is Bluetooth available on Nav models or not?

By the way, _mo_ you had it right the first time. You still cannot get a Tribeca, for example, with Nav, Bluetooth, iPod integration, Harmon Kardin audio, and Rear Entertainment equipped on the same vehicle which is f---ing STUPID!!!

BlueConnect is not necessary for Navi equipped Impreza/Forester/Legacy/OB because for $150 (or standard in 2010) you can just add the microphone (mounts on the steering column) since the software is already built into the navi.

BlueConnect is this box w/ speakers in the dash:

The BlueConnect kit for cars without Navi is only available for Legacy and Forester.

In which Subaru vehicles can BlueConnect be installed?
2010 Outback** without harman/kardon® Audio package
2010 Legacy** without harman/kardon® Audio package
Coming soon: 2010 Impreza**
Coming soon: 2010 Forester**
Coming soon: 2010 Tribeca**

From the BlueTooth FAQ

I think the production switch over to the next model year usually occurs during the summer. So with only 4 months of production left, are they going to even bother?

It may free up your hands, but it doesn't free up your attention.
