Default Largest Rims for 2010 2.5i

What are the largest rims I can put on my 2010 2.5i w/o problems? 17's or 18's?

Thanks

I mean you could probably put on 20's, but that's (hopefully) not what you want.

So may variables in that question. Are you doing straight street driving, some backroads, smooth roads, pothole infested roads, track, rally-x? The second big thing is tires. You could prob. run 18-19 with lower profile tires. the overall diameter is what will determine that.

Also, you need to watch the offset of the wheel, as some may only come in an offset that will hinder it from working(ie: hitting a strut, fender liner at full lock, etc. Search in the members gallery for pics of the 2.5i, will give you some good info and reference points.

go 17's and find a sticky tire with a near stock sidewall for some abuse protection (assuming this is a paved application.) I run fifteens on my 2001 RS with 55% sidewall performance tires usually during the non snow season and it can take quite some abuse in contrast to 16's with 45% sidewall. If this is a street wheel then think about the rims denting over time. now those sixteens due to a thin 45% sidewall and a quick off road excursion are sitting in a metal heap and waiting to be melted down.

last summer on my 1997 2 door i ran 15" 1997 legacy outback rims painted gold with old worn down Kevlar reinforced Gravel tires, from that point on wrecking the tires or the wheels was nearly impossible.

You can get some tires in 225/30/20 (25.3") which will work on 20x8" wheels (generally no other size). Not sure if you can find 20x8" 5x100 wheels with a decent offset but assuming you could, you could run 20" wheels on a WRX fairly painlessly. Until you hit a pothole that is...

19" would be far easier and you'd actually have a few wheels/tires to choose from.

17" and 18" are by far the most common aftermarket choices.

Personally, I run as much sidewall as I can. Thing is they don't make many 16" tires past 225 wide, nor do they make a wheel that would clear my brakes. As such, I use 17"s. I ran 18"s for a while but hated the ride.
