2 counts, right?

Default Colonial Subaru (Danbury,CT)

i had a "fairly" painless experiance here, the service is good, the garage/ mechanics are pretty good, the service/parts department are understanding and helpful. The sales people on the other hand are not so cool. Let's just put it this way, when the dealer pulled my car out of the lot, he managed to rip the front bumper off, getting it caught on a spike from one of their tents. They tried to make up for it by repairing it and lowering the price slightly (they tend to be a little overpriced, especially for late-model/used cars) All in all a pretty good dealership just crappy salespeople.

Default Hate them

I live in Brewster, NY and I HATE Colonial! They did not repair a window problem on our '98 Legacy L wagon under warenty where another dealer did. They are all about the money and the only good stealership in the area is Wilton Subaru in Wilton, CT.

I bought from Wilton about a week ago, and had a very pleasurable experience.

I walked in and said "I'd like a WRX wagon, 5 spd, in red or silver." Guy came out and showed me the invoice. He said he wanted 3%. I showed him my carsdirect sheet (400 over invoice) and he agreed to a price right above that. The end. I could have haggled more, but I didn't want to waste time over 100-200$ over 4 years.

Financing was easy. I went in at 10, left at 12. They said to come back at 2 and the car would be washed and ready. All done.

I was pretty happy with it.

Thanks. They seemed like nice guys. Hopefully, I won't need warranty work, but if I do, I'll be certain to take it there. Otherwise, Stamford Subaru is right next to my office, so I can do easy scheduled maintenance there.

wow... I left this Subaru dealer today with a smile, I'm going to call them and thank them for the good job that they did. My car was leaking oil, the dealer in Brewster said $1,200. I ended up walking out today with that work getting done under warranty plus some other things my car needed for 1/4 of that. I'd recommend Colonial for there service.. two thumbs up.

I came up from LI NY to buy a '05 OBP wingless wrx at colon(ial)... when i took delivery of the car, i was told that "your first service is free here, not like you're going to come all the way back up here though"

i go out to see the car, it's under the flouro lights int he shop, and the fugger wasn't waxed, it was done the once over.... but with no love at all..\

atleast the finance manager knew his routine and got me out fast

Colonial is a BIG DEALER... Biggest seller in new england if I'm not mistaken...

I went there once looking at used cars. Didn't find the saleswoman to be pushy by any means...

I agree with the pricing though, it was a bit steep.

Rye was a bit nicer, though that may be a little far for you Danbury folks.

They are the largest? the lot looks smallish to me, I go up the road to get gas at Sunnoco, only thing is the building if it was not for the Subaru sign I would think it was just another building with the boring paint color they have.

Colonial sales seem to be okay, but make suer you never go to them for service. The service deparment are full of people that do not know how to fix cars. I have a whole story on the tri-state area forum regarding my experience with them.

HERE is the thread. I had to edit some of the posts due to legal reasons.

i haven't bought a new car from any dealership, but i've had nothing but bad experiences with almost any employee of Colonial Subaru in their Kingston, NY showroom. maybe it's just a generally bad-service outfit?

Yeah, I am in firm agreement with the building consensus about the sales force. Very pushy, constantly in that ever-enraging "always be closing" mode. I wouldn't doubt that the cars are fine and the service department is competent, but I felt very put off by the shopping experience, so I didn't buy a car there...

I was looking for an 09 satin white wrx premium hatchback in November 08. I test drove 4 different cars each time alone which I prefer. They didnt have one in stock, nobody in the tri-state area did. The wanted me to order one which ironicly might have been built with an engine that wouldnt explode. They would only take about $1000 of MSRP and offered $20000 for my trade. I got online and found the exact car I was seeking at Faulkner Subaru in Harrisburg PA. $300 below dealer invoice $22000 trade. I did this all with e-mails! I showed up swapped keys signed papers and left. I would do it again to save the $3500!

Cant comment on the sales force cause i got a past car from Wilton/Georgetown but thier parts departments are a bunch of goons.

Last time i went there, a parts guy made me feel like hes doing me a favor by looking up a part for me...last time i checked, thats your pathetic job.

Never would use thier service department either.....Colonial two thumbs down.

They have another huge lot full of cars behind the Mazda dealership right down the road.

But yes, I haven't heard many good things about Colonial... and their prices were always OUTRAGEOUS.

I've praised Danbury in the past, even started driving an hour each way to go there, but they are looking more and more like Subaru of Stamford every time I vist. The service managers don't seem to listen and their primary goal now seems to be to rush you out the door. They looked at the same problem three times, proposed the same solution three times and finally - even though there was no change in the car from previous times they acknowledged the issue - declared it didn't exist.

So I'm once again on the hunt for a good place to get my car serviced.

PS- I can confirm UM-WRXer's evaluation of the parts department. Replacing them with a parts catalog chained to the counter would be faster and easier for everyone involved... I actually found the part number for my wheel quicker on my Blackberry. And they charge Subaru MSRP - even Stamford Subaru offers a little discount.

Also - a few months back I went in to the sales dept inquire about buying an extended service contract while my car was in for service, the finance manager wouldn't even come out to talk to me, said he was too busy. I was there for a long time, but he never bothered to come back and find me in service. Seems like easy money so its strange to me that they wouldn't jump all over that...

I was able to get my 2012 at invoice if that matters? I know I could have saved a few hundred bucks elsewhere but they had the car I WANTED, Limited WRX with NAV. They also got me a better interest rate than the 2.9% "special"that was advertised at the time by Subaru.. I'm not sure how their service department works though I live almost 90 minutes away.
