I am confused and need some help please.

Well I am a little embarrassed to be asking this, but my new car is confusing the crap out me. Here is some background on it.

I picked up a 99 Legacy L wagon not to long ago. I pulled the engine and started to rebuild it.

It is a 2.2L with 16V dual intake port/single exhaust port heads. The spark plug is in the middle of the valve cover.

My confusion comes from ordering parts. For 99 all the parts I am getting (particularly the valve covers) are showing the single cam 8 valve heads. Mine are single cam 16V heads with the spark plug tube in the head.

When did Subaru start making the 16V 2.2L engine with the spark plug in the middle of the head? I am having a heck of a time getting engine parts for this thing.

Also, I cannot find exhaust manifold gaskets for this thing anywhere. Not even Subygenparts lists them. Does anyone have a PN for them?

Another wierd thing is, is I have 2.2L intake manifold gaskets that share the same bolt pattern arrangement as my intake manifold. They are just way smaller than the manifold ports, and the bolt holes don't line up because the gasket is just too small.

Could it be I have a wierd hybrid motor in my Legacy??? Also if this is a stock engine, is it the non-interference version or interference version?

Are they single cam heads? Sounds like you might have the 2.5, but I thought they only came in dual port exhaust ports....

Take some pictures, it'll help us.


P.S.
If your info is right, on your profile, if it's an LGT then it should be the dual cam motor... Which means it is also the 2.5... There should be a generic gasket for the single port exhaust found at any auto parts store... And for the intake manifold, look for the 97-99 Legacy GT intake gaskets or the 98 RS intake mani gaskets.

Diff car. I have 3 cars, 98 LGT, 05 OBS, and the one mentioned above 99 Lego L.

The 98 is a DOHC EJ25D. I am usually SUPER good with my engines, but this is a new one to me. It says EJ22 on the block, but the heads are confusing me. I'll have pics in a minute.

Maybe the auto parts store just grabbed the wrong intake manifold gaskets?
I used to work at Baxter Auto Parts and that happened quite a bit. Try going back and orderin another set to compare... Or just grab the ej25d intake manifold gaskets and compare...

Yeah, maybe they messed up. I know it isn't a D manifold, the bolts are not in a line. The outside bolts are set back from the inside ones.

Thats probably what it is. The parts stores grabbed the wrong stuff.

It is funny to me, because I am like WTF, I know these cars inside and and out (I have had over 12 now), and I just couldn't place this one. I think 99 must be a bastered year and the parts stores mixed and matched or something.

I still need to find the exhaust manifold gaskets though. I'll try Subaru on tues.
