Default New Honda Civic Type R Mugen

Quote:
Hondaís Civic Type R has been given a styling makeover by its Mugen tuning department.

The Honda Civic Type R Mugenís looks have been inspired by the full Mugen Civic Type R, which is limited to just 20 units costing £38,599 each.

The new model has been given unique body parts, badging and wheels to differentiate it from the standard Civic Type R. It is powered by the base carís 198bhp 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine and production will be limited to 200 units.

New features include new front and rear bumpers and side skirts, exclusive 19-inch Lightning alloys, Mugen badges, Championship White paint, gloss black door mirrors and an individually numbered plaque. A limited-slip differential is also fitted as standard.

So they took a base car and did basically nothing but put wheels and plastic on it. And now its worth 38000+ quid. I need to get into the tuning business.. what a complete joke.

I agree. I don't know why they made it different for the US but they are both equally as ugly. Didn't it lose a bit of performance with this generation as well? I don't know what Honda is doing lately.

Yes. It got heavier and uses the Fit's chassis.. complete with torsion bar rear axle.

(most of that is JC just being an idiot.. I'm sure it's a fine car in most respects)

.. but the JDM Type R is soo much better.

reminds me of what additions the SS Chevy cars were given of yore...besides the LSD maybe, but that wasn't already standard on the base Type R??!

This is as bad as our USDM mugen civic. All of that extra money for a "mugen" badge, wheels, and a bodykit.

Ha, the US will never see anything that cool. All we'll get is one with 10,000 lbs of bateries to make ECO friendly.

I'm guessing Honda decided long time ago that targeting the tuner crowd, the urban working class guys in their 20's, is not where the money is. And they may even be right. (I mean, how many slammed Civic owners actually "graduate" to the Accords?)
Problem is that they haven't come up with anything exciting to replace the kind of cars they used to make in the 90's. It's not like they instead made Acura into a real BMW fighter.

Those huge twin exhausts makes me laugh. I guess they didn't want to bottleneck the 200 hp fury.

Awesome, a body kit... and an ugly one at that. How is Mugen still in business with Honda for these things? It's ridiculous. At least give it an extra few ponies.

I was actually going to link the Top Gear videos. I'm waiting for Spoon to save Honda from Mugen.

Quoted because some of you aren't getting it. The price for the car isn't listed. Although, I can't imagine the full mugen civic type r was worth 38,599 either, even if there was only 20.

But that doesn't change the validity of anyone's opinions. It's still a body kit, and an overpriced and ugly one at that. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that Honda is going to offer a Mugen kit at Costco prices.

If you're talking about the Civic Si, no. It gained 40hp over the previous gen Si, and was faster all around. It also outperformed the RSX-S it (kinda sorta) replaced, due to having mostly the same running gear, but with a LSD.

I don't believe the new Type-R is slower either.

^ Well, seeing how this is a Euro Type-R, in comparison to the other Euro Type-Rs, he's more or less correct.
