Default GreenGT to unveil electric Twenty-4 Le Mans racer

Quote:
There will be many things of interest at the Geneva Motor Show, one of which is GreenGTís unveiling of the electric Twenty-4 Le Mans racer. Not many details are known. Itís believed that the Twenty-4 could be based on GreenGTís recent design study.

The study had boasted of an FIA-spec carbon chassis and a fiberglass body. Featured on the study were two electric motors that got their power from flexcell photovoltaic solar panels and two 30kWh lithium-ion batteries. Packing 400 hp (298 kW) and an awesome 2000 Nm (1475 ft-lb) of torque, the 860 kg (1895 lbs) concept could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds and hit a top speed of 275 km/h (171 mph). *Update: the debut was confirmed by Christophe Schwartz, one of the creators of the Green GT brand! More details are expected next month.

All that torque is probably going through one fairly tall gear, which means far less at the wheels.

Also, electric motors make max torque right around 0 RPM.. then the torque drops swiftly as RPMs rise.

For instance, here's a look at the Tesla's dyno plot vs a ~135 or so HP gas engine.

^ reasonable point about the efficiency. but...

here are the Tesla sport's specs ---
288hp (215kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
vs. the GreenGT.
400hp (298 kW) and 1475 ft-lb (2000 Nm) of torque.

your point is well taken but given the proportion of hp to tq in comparison to the Tesla I wonder if they may well be apples to apples efficiency-wise.

but regardless, whatever is left over hits instantly. like shooting a rubber band.

Not only does it look cool, it is bound to be a fantastic R&D experiment.

Um unless the race allows for VERY long pit stops, it better be little more than a drag race. The LeMons reference is a joke in marketing as it would probably not make one lap. Pure electric endurance race cars are a fantasy in the near future.

A quick swap battery system COULD be faster than refueling but I think they'd be in the pits swapping batteries too often to be competitive at all. Every 2 or 3 laps I would imagine. I agree, nothing to do with 24 hours of Le Mans. Not even spelled the same.

^ love this quote from them >

"The crowd. The spectacle. The pall of blue smoke and roasted clutch discs. In all motorsport, no event captures the universal human need to whale on old crapcans and hoover down greasy barbecue like the 24 Hours of LeMons."
