I bought a 207 SB from someone and he kept all but one case bolt for whatever reason. I'm going to reuse the ones in my current motor, but that is in the car right now (under 4ft of snow) and I want to get this show on the damn road since spring is approaching.
If I bring the machine shop my new pistons and the case halves, can they bore and hone them?

It depends on the fixture setup the shop has some shops need to have the cases bolted together some don't,you will have to call the shop you use and ask them.If you need to buy case bolts, the whole set is like $50 from the dealer.

I never realized the bolts were that cheap. I saw the price of the ARP set and cringed, so I figured I re-use the old ones. |

yeah I agree the ARP case bolt set is a real shocker.Ron at raw uses stock bolts unless the customer states he wants arp's.And on top of the arp's when you use them the cases have to be align honed after the stronger bolts are used to amke sure everything is still true which is another expense on top of the case bolts.

Ideally, you want the case bolted together and torqued, AND have torque plates installed in place of both heads for all machining operations. This theoretically puts the block in the "as stressed" position for all the machine work.
That being said...Just do as much as your shop is capable of doing unless your looking for record breaking HP numbers. |
