Default Peugeot 508 concept Revealed

Quote:
hese are the first pictures of the “5 by Peugeot” concept car that will be shown at the Geneva motor show next month, previewing the new Peugeot 508.The Peugeot 508 concept is described by Peugeot as "another indication of the changing face of Peugeot" and as "providing an insight into the marque’s future ambitions in the large luxury vehicle segment". As the 508 - the successor to the 407 - it will be a Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Insignia and Renault Laguna rival.

Powered by Peugeot’s so-called Hybrid4 technology, which will go into production in 2011 in the Peugeot 3008, it has a 163bhp 2.0 litre HDi FAP engine linked to a 37bhp electric motor. The combination produces a maximum of 200bhp, an electric only mode for low speed operation and four-wheel drive when required. It averages 74.3 mpg and 99g/km of CO2.

Peugeot says the Hybrid4 technology can be fitted to a range of naturally-aspirated engines according to market requirements, as well as to different models of cars on different platforms.

The car also highlights some future Peugeot design directions, with the grille in particular reminiscent of the Peugeot SR1 concept car's, which was unveiled earlier this year.

Peugeot SR1 concept unveiled

The 5 by Peugeot's dimensions are 4860mm in length, 1880mm width and 2815 in wheelbase. Its kerb weight is 1880kg with full tanks.

It will blend in nicely and be indistinguishable from the boring cars mentioned in the article--great cars for those who want to be invisible.

I dunno. I actually think this one stands out a bit. Its a really elegant design with some nice touches. Not a game changer, but pretty cool!

I'd be happy with a 405 T16. Roughly the same as a Legacy Turbo from the same time period.

FAP stands for "filtre à particules" in French or particulate filter in English. But, wait, particulate does rhyme with ... .

Default Peugeot 508: new pics + details

Quote:
eugeot has released more details of its new 508 range, which will replace both the 407 and now-defunct 607 models in the maker’s line-up.The cars go on sale next February and will be made in France and China.
Company sources say that 508 features deliberately ‘pure, sober’ styling that is intended to project an air of precision and long-lasting quality. Much the same can be said for interior, which is finely detailed and well-finished. Peugeot says that the car uses materials that will stay looking ‘new’ for as long as possible.
The 508’s cabin also gets an Audi MMI-style controller and the option of a head-up display. The 508 gets a 10cm wheelbase stretch compared to the 407 which results in improved rear space. The Sport Wagon gets an impressive 660-litre boot.

A version of the 112bhp 1.6-litre HDI engine (from summer 2011) will come with a clutchless six-speed manual ‘box and stop-start allowing it to return 109g/km Co2 .
The range-topping GT model gets a 204bhp 2.2-litre diesel hooked up an ‘efficient’ six-speed autobox. This model also gets wishbone front suspension.

The glass roof of the wagon is awesome and scary all at the same time. I think this is a very nice looking car.

I grew up in an almost 100% Peugeot household: 1986 205 (mum's car), 1996 306 (mum's car), 2006 307(mum's car), 2008 207(dad's car).
The 205 was sold (in more than fair condition) to buy the 306 which is still running today (it's my little brother's car now). The 306 has been mechanically flawless and I mean _flawless_. The 307 and the 207 are light year ahead of the 306. Very solid cars overall.
