http://www.bild.de/BILD/news/2010/02...uedafrika.html

Translated

"On the evening of February 8th he boarded a plane for tSouth Africa. The trip was to Johannesburg, one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Since then, lacking any trace of him.

An investigator: "We are in close contact with the South African Police." A business partner: "We are making us all very worried about Uwe."

that would be a huge loss to the porsche tuning world (outside of the obvious ramifications and loss to his family and loved ones)

From one human being to another..I hope he is okay. IN as far as his outlandish designs with Porsche, no real shortage of Porsche tuners.

What makes Johannesburg so unsafe? Was once one of the most beautiful cites in the world.

Update: German officials close down Gemballa facility; Uwe Gemballa hiding from German officials?

Reports of Uwe Gemballa’s mysterious disappearance in South Africa has turned out to be premature. But while we’re glad to know that Gemballa is probably still alive, his tuning company, Gemballa, may not be as fortunate.

According to Cars UK, Gemballa didn’t exactly ’disappear’ when he went to Johannesburg. Turns out, he might be hiding from German authorities. While there’s no definite word on why Gemballa fled out of the Germany, reports have it that German officials raided and effectively closed down his tuning facility, resulting in all the cars in the plant to be impounded.

As a result, all the owners with cars inside would have to show definitive proof that they own those cars for them to have any chance of reclaiming their belongings.

Like we said, we don’t know the reason why Uwe Gemballa decided to fall off the grid, but if the latest happenings involving his tuning his house has any merit, then he – and his company, for that matter - might be in some deep trouble. Keep checking back here for more updates regarding this rather perplexing turn of events.

I hope the man is okay but Gemballa is the scourge of all porsche tuners. Ugly, balls out, "I'm more macho than you" cars that sacrifice handling for deep dish 20 inch yellow rims and ridiculous body kits. Kinda like SCIC crew and the hellafrush movement...

sort of what I was getting to. He took something like porsche and made it more style over function, which is a sin.

From another forum:

Quote:
The Gemballa facility is in full operation. Mrs. Gemballa is running the place in her husband's absence. The German police did show up to inventory things as is standard practice when the owner or CEO goes missing. NO CARS HAVE BEEN SEIZED OR IMPOUNDED.
Our company is a vendor to Gemballa and things are normal from a business perspective.

I hereby condemn much of the muckraking internet press for "Olympic" conclusion jumping.
Shame on all of them.

Sadly, Uwe Gemballa has been kidnapped in South Africa and is being held for 1 million Euro ransom.

We should all pray for his safe return.
